WEST CHESTER » Thousands of people are expected to flock to West Chester Sunday for what Keith Kurowksi terms a music lover’s paradise.

The 36th annual Turks Head Music Festival starts at 11 a.m. July 15 at Everhart Park and features 11 bands on two stages.

“We’re going to have a really nice array of sound,” said Kurowski, director of West Chester’s park and recreation department. “We’ll have a little bit of everything, but the focus will be on the music.”

The rain date is July 24, but the forecast is calling for sunny skies all day, with a high of 88 degrees and average humidity.

“If it’s 88 degrees on Sunday with low humidity, I think we’ll get 4,000 or 5,000 visitors throughout the day,” Kurowski said. “Many of the people will come to see one band, but when they hear the other bands, they can get turned on to other types of music.”

At the event, Local Yoga Cafe will offer a free yoga class to the community from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The festival is free, and there will be 70 vendors selling everything from fungi plants to handmade jewelry, and there will be nine different food vendors.

“People come with a blanket or lawn chair, bring a drink (alcoholic drinks are prohibited) and enjoy the music, and it

doesn’t cost them a dime,” Kurowski said.

A kid’s area includes a moonbounce, and there will be a misting area to get cooled off.

The music festival begins at 11 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. with music throughout the day. Half Past Seven takes the stage at 7:20 p.m. for the last set.

Bands scheduled to play Sunday include: Josh Olmstead, Pepperwine, Venom Blues, Waiting for December, Afro Bear, Mark DeRose, Big Mind Band, Aqua Cherry, Hambone Relay, Dean Shot Howling Wolf and Half Past Seven. Most of the bands come from Chester County, but one (Pepperwine) is coming from New Jersey, and the other (Aqua Cherry), is coming from New York. The bands do not get paid to perform.
