Pottstown man allegedly cut store clerk with knife

Police have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with the July 3 robbery of a convenienc­e store.

Police have charged Miquel Dwayne Johnson Jr., 36, of Lower Pottsgrove, after a robbery investigat­ion at a Turkey Hill.

On July 3, at approximat­ely 2:40 a.m., Lower Pott- sgrove Township Police responded to a robbery at the Turkey Hill store #260 at 3051 E. High St. Officers arrived at the store and discovered the female store clerk was injured and bleeding severely from her hand. The clerk reported that a black male entered the store and that she was attacked by the same male. The suspect, later identified as Johnson, demanded money from the

clerk while displaying a knife. The clerk went to the register and tried to open the register, during which time the suspect attacked her again and she was cut on three fingers by the suspect’s knife, police said. The the suspect then took all of the cash and change from the register and fled the store travelling west in front of the store.

The store clerk was taken by Goodwill Ambulance to Pottstown Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Investigat­ing officers were able to review the store surveillan­ce camera footage and the suspect was observed entering the store wearing a white T-shirt, tan cargo shorts, and gray colored shoes, according to authoritie­s.

Through the course of the investigat­ion, Johnson was developed as a suspect after he was observed wearing the same clothing as the suspect several hours prior to the robbery and again several hours after the robbery. A search was conducted at Johnson’s home, 2120 Buchert Road, Apartment #185, on July 3. Police said during the search, a clothing consistent with that worn by the suspect in the robbery was recovered. Also recovered from the home was a fixed-blade knife consistent with that used in the assault.

Lower Pottsgrove Police Detectives interviewe­d Johnson about his alleged involvemen­t in the robbery. Johnson confessed to robbing the Turkey Hill and admitted he was armed with the knife during the robber, police said.

Johnson was subsequent­ly charged with robbery, aggravated assault, simple assault, theft, receiving stolen property, possessing an instrument of crime and recklessly endangerin­g another person. He was transferre­d to the Montgomery County Correction­al Facility to await processing and arraignmen­t on the charges.
