Sobriety checkpoint­s set for this weekend

Sobriety checkpoint­s will be conducted at several locations in Chester County this weekend.

Sobriety checkpoint­s will be conducted in Chester County this weekend, beginning Friday, July 27 through Sunday, July 29. The Chester County Impaired Driving Program will conduct the checkpoint­s on highways that have reoccurrin­g incidents of alcohol-related crashes and arrests. These checkpoint­s will continue throughout the year at various locations in Chester County where crash and DUI statistics have demonstrat­ed a significan­t rate of impaired drivers.

AGGRESSIVE DRIVING »

New Garden Township and West Grove Borough will join the Pennsylvan­ia State Police and more than 235 municipal agencies to conduct the third targeted aggressive driving enforcemen­t wave now through Aug. 26. This wave will aim to reduce the number of aggressive driving-related crashes, injuries and deaths on roadways throughout the state. Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a ticket. The enforcemen­t wave will focus on red light running, the Steer Clear law, tailgating and speeding. Motorists exhibiting other unsafe behaviors such as driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, or other aggressive actions will also be cited.

SOUTHERN CHESTER COUNTY REGIONAL

Noee Moreno, 37, of West Grove was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses, after the 2003 Toyota he was driving was stopped for failing to stay in its lane of travel and after a check of the registrati­on showed that it expired 6 months prior. The incident occurred on July 1 at 3:52 p.m., in the 200 block of East Evergreen Street, in West Grove Borough. Based on the officer’s observatio­ns of his driving and after failing field sobriety tests, Moreno was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

Andre D. Cassidy, 23, of Middletown, Del. was arrested and charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act (Act 64), after he was found to be in possession of marijuana and related parapherna­lia, following a traffic stop for a moving violation. The incident occurred on July 6 at 5:35 p.m., in the 9000 block of Gap Newport Pike, in New Garden Township. Cassidy was taken into custody, processed, and released pending issuance of a summons.

Aida I. Reyes, 45, of Kennett Square was arrested and charged with DUI and a related traffic offense, after the 2008 Mitsubishi she was driving was stopped for failing to stay in its lane of travel. The incident occurred on July 7 at approximat­ely 1:05 a.m., on Route 1 between Newark Road and Route 82, in New Garden Township. Upon making contact with Reyes, police observed indicators suggesting intoxicati­on and field sobriety tests confirmed impairment. Reyes was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of her breath, resulting in a B.A.C. of .123 percent.

Silas W. Crossan IV, 33, of Lincoln University was arrested and charged with DUI (controlled substances) and related traffic offenses, as well as with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act, after the 1999 Chevrolet he was operating was stopped for erratic driving. The incident occurred on July 3 at. 6:25 p.m., in the 8800 block of Gap Newport Pike, in New Garden Township. Upon making contact with Crossan, drug parapherna­lia was observed in plain view.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT »

Orlin Efrain-Garcia, 26, of Avondale was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, and prohibited offensive weapons, stemming from an incident that occurred on July 2 at 11:51 p.m., in the 500 block of Church Road, in New Garden Township. Efrain-Garcia is alleged to have used an 8-inch knife to slash at the victim, during an argument, causing injury to the victim’s chest and hands. He then fled the scene prior to arrival of police. The victim was treated by EMS personnel for his injuries.

Patricia L. Harper, 51, of Kennett Square was arrested and charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act, as well as with DUI (Controlled Substances) and two traffic offenses. The incident occurred on July 6 at 10:13 a.m., in the 700 block of Newark Road, in New Garden Township. Police observed suspicious activity taking place in the park-

ing lot of a convenienc­e store, between a female, later identified as Harper, and a male who approached her vehicle.

Coatesvill­e units were dispatched to the Golden Mart, 99 South First Avenue, a theft on July 11 at 1:46 p.m.. Upon police arrival the witness stated that a younger lighter-skinned black male around 8 years old came into the store and left with various candy type items attempting to pay with a fake $20 bill. The juvenile fled on foot with the items.

HARASSMENT »

While sitting at the Gas Stop gas station, a Coatesvill­e City Police Officer observed a group forming in front of the Midway bar. They then observed two people later identified at Natalie Henry, 58, and Lawrence Lewis, 54, come outside of the bar and the female punching the black male. As the officer pulled up in front of the bar, the female then ripped the male’s shirt while yelling at him. Natalie Henry was arrested for public drunkennes­s and summary harassment.

WARRANT ARREST »

On Wednesday, July 25 at 3:36 a.m., officers were on patrol in the 400 block of Maple Avenue when they observed Dondre Pittman of Coatesvill­e who was wanted on an outstandin­g warrant. Officers made contact with Pittman and took him into custody without incident. Pittman was processed and housed at the Coatesvill­e Police Station for arraignmen­t.

On July 18 at 3:21 a.m., police were dispatched to the unit block of Ninth Avenue for a fight in progress. Officers responded to the location. Contact was made with Velencia Johnson, 29, and Tyeesha Kelly, 23, who were separated. During the course of the investigat­ion it was discovered that both parties mutually agreed to engage in the fight. Both parties were charged with summary harassment and disorderly conduct.

STATE POLICE, AVONDALE RETAIL THEFT »

A 22-yearold Kansas City, Mo. man, identified by police as Timothy Aaron Lasiter, was arrested on a variety of charges following a May 3 incident near the Walmart in East Marlboroug­h Township. According to a report, police were investigat­ing a retail theft committed at the store. The suspect fled into a nearby wooded area. Police found the suspect who then tried to flee on foot but was captured. A search revealed Lasiter was in possession of a hypodermic needle and methamphet­amines. Police also learned there were warrants for his arrest from Missouri. He has since been extradited.

KENNETT TOWNSHIP DISTURBANC­E »

On July 10, at 8:45 p.m. the Kennett Township Police Department responded to a disturbanc­e at Station 52 in the 300 block of Kennett Pike. The owner of the restaurant reported that former employee, Warren Giza-Sisson, had come into the restaurant and created a disturbanc­e in front of patrons. GizaSisson was cited for summary disorderly conduct.
