Route 422 lane closures scheduled for pipe cleaning

LOWER POTTSGROVE » Lane closures are scheduled along parts of Roue 422 beginning on Tuesday.

The right lane is scheduled to close on eastbound Route 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchang­es on Tuesday, July 31, and Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., for pipe cleaning operations as part of a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of Route 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on eastbound Route 422 through the work area because backups and delays will occur. The contractor’s schedule is weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT’s is building, in phases, new Route 422 structures over the Schuylkill River; new Route 422 structures over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding Route 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over Route 422; improving and realigning ramps at the Route 422/ Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchang­e; reconstruc­ting and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to Route 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligen­t Transporta­tion equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs.

J.D. Eckman Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Work on the entire project is scheduled to finish this fall.
