RSVP gets grant to support key programs
Three innovative children’s programs will benefit from a $2,000 grant from CCRES in Downingtown.
DOWNINGTOWN » RSVP, headquartered at 901 East 8th Avenue, King of Prussia announced the receipt of a $2,000 grant from CCRES, located in Downingtown, for support of three innovative RSVP children’s programs: America Reads, Family Literacy and My Free Tutor virtual tutoring for disadvantaged students and low-income veterans.
Michele Moll, RSVP’s Executive Director reports “This grant will allow us to continue to positively impact the lives of more than 5,500 children and veterans who are benefiting from the direct service our volunteers provide. We are grateful for CCRES’s support which enables us to expand our critical impact programs.”
RSVP’s America Reads program places volunteer reading coaches into K-4th grade classrooms to work with students in groups or individually to practice reading and comprehension skills. Students gain confidence by practicing with a volunteer and become more self-assured readers. The Family Literacy program helps disadvantaged Head Start preschoolers and their families acquire the reading tools and incentives they need to succeed. Volunteers visit classrooms to read to students and create a joy for reading, helping students prepare to enter Kindergarten as ready learners. Newsletters with reading tips are sent home to encourage families to read to their children at home. To support math proficiency for low-income high school students and first-generation college bound veterans, RSVP created the cutting edge My Free Tutor virtual math tutoring program. Tutor and student meet virtually weekly to work on difficult concepts.
RSVP is always seeking new volunteers to support impact programs focused on important community needs such as helping veterans, the elderly, disadvantaged preschool children and at-risk youth as well as by providing support to other nonprofits. The public is invited to learn about current needs in local communities by attending a free volunteer information session. The mission of CCRES is to ensure quality educational and human service programs for children, families and schools.
