Christine Kimmel, East Marlborough Township’s first woman supervisor, will resign effective Sept. 7.

EAST MARLBOROUGH » Christine Kimmel, the first female supervisor ever elected in East Marlborough Township, will resign effective Sept. 7.

Kimmel, who has been a supervisor for three years, told the other supervisors at their monthly meeting Monday night that she and her husband had bought a house in Thornbury Township, Chester County. As a non-resident of East Marlborough she would not be able to serve on the board.

“We’re very excited, but we’re also very sad,” Kimmel told the other board members. She said the supervisors, other officials, and staff were all “amazing.”

“Everybody really cares about what goes on in this township,” Kimmel said.

Kimmel is a mother of two and has focused on education, strengthening families and preserving open space.

For his part, Richard Hannum, chairman of the board of supervisors, praised Kimmel’s professionalism, and said her background as a real estate attorney was helpful in their work. He also said it was a “true pleasure” to work with her.

“We really appreciate all the time and effort that you put into being a supervisor,” Hannum said. “We’re really going to miss you.”

Cuyler Walker, chairman of the planning commission, thanked Kimmel on behalf of the planners.

Hannum said Frone Crawford, the township solicitor, had outlined the steps to replace Kimmel. The supervisors have 30 days from the effective resignation date to appoint a new supervisor, but that can be extended for another 50 days if necessary.
