Jets gets solid QB play from Darnold and Bridgewater
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. » Sam Darnold sparkled in his NFL debut, Teddy Bridgewater looked sharp and healthy, and the New York Jets earned the franchise’s first preseason home shutout by beating the sluggish Atlanta Falcons 17-0 on Friday night.
Darnold, the No. 3 overall draft pick in April, was the Jets’ third quarterback of the game, following Josh McCown and Bridgewater. The former USC star was greeted by loud cheers and a standing ovation as he jogged onto the field at MetLife Stadium with 8:41 in the first half.
Darnold got the crowd on its feet just before halftime, throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass to Charles Johnson that gave New York a 17-0 lead.
Darnold, who finished 13 of 18 for 96 yards, missed the first three days of training camp
Ex-girlfriend of McCoy says injuries healing
The woman whose face was bloodied in a home invasion at a home owned by Buffalo running back LeSean McCoy says her injuries are healing, though she is still having emotional difficulty dealing with what happened a month ago.
Delicia Cordon wrote, “mentally, is still a battle,” in posting a message on her Instagram account on Friday.
Cordon is McCoy’s ex-girlfriend, and wrote she will continue to fight for justice to be served, and added: “NO ONE deserves what my cousin and I endured.”
Cordon was injured after being attacked by a man who entered the home in suburban Atlanta in the early hours of July 10. Her lawyer said Cordon sustained
bruises and was struck in the face multiple times by a gun when the man attempted to take bracelets off her wrist.
McCoy has denied involvement in the home invasion.
Redskins’ Guice out for season
Washington rookie running back Derrius Guice is
out for the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee, a significant blow to the ground game.
Guice was injured in Washington’s preseason opener at New England on Thursday and could be seen on the sideline with ice on his knee. The team announced the prognosis Friday following an MRI.
