West Chester police officer assaulted
A West Chester police officer was assaulted after arresting a man for public drunkenness.
WEST CHESTER » A West Chester police officer was assaulted after arresting a man for public drunkenness.
Police said that on Aug. 12, at 8:11 p.m., a West Chester Police officer observed AJ Rogers, 32, of West Palm Beach, Fla. appearing to be intoxicated in a public place. Rogers was arrested for public drunkenness. During the intake process at the West Goshen Police Department, Rogers kicked a West Chester Borough Police Officer in the groin. Rogers was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Rogers was transported to Chester County Prison and arraigned, with bail was set at $25,000.

DUI » As the result of a traffic stop on West Market Street on Aug. 19, at 12:03 a.m., Evan Miller, 49 of West Chester, was arrested for DUI. During a search of Miller’s person, he was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and associated paraphernalia. Miller was later released on summons.

BURGLARY » On Aug. 17 at 2:22 p.m., police investigated a burglary at a house on Joeck Circle. The residents were home when someone forced open a rear French door off the deck to gain entry. The victims reported that nothing appeared to be disturbed or missing. The damage to the door was estimated at $25.

DRUG CHARGES » Joseph Latshaw, 33, of Downingtown was arrested following a traffic stop on June 28 at 8:38 p.m. on the Route 30 bypass, west of Pottstown Pike. Police said he was found to be in possession of drugs as well as being inter the influence of controlled substances. PUBLIC INTOXICATION » Brittany Ann Shepherd, 28, of Honey Brook, was arrested for public intoxication on Aug. 13 at 8:07 a.m. at the Turkey Hill store on Horseshoe Pike in Honey Brook. Police said she was lying on the front sidewalk in the fetal position, in and out of consciousness. There were four cans of keyboard duster in a plastic bag she had been carrying. DUI » Aureliano Ibanez Vargas, 50, of Coatesville was arrested for DUI following a crash in the area of 903 Old Wilmington Road in Sadsbury on July 3 at 12:55 a.m.

DISTURBANCE » Manuel Bedolla, 24, of West Grove was arrested and charged with disturbance. On July 19 at 8:05 p.m., police were dispatched to a business at 345 Scarlett Road, in New Garden, for the report of a male who was punching walls, books, and shelves, and was running a shopping cart into the walls. This disturbance caused store employees to ask customers to leave until police arrived. DUI » Aidan J. Gartner, 23, of Kennett Square was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses, following a traffic stop for a stop sign violation and for failing to stay within his lane of travel. The incident occurred on July 17 at 1 a.m., in the 600 block of Hillendale Road, in New Garden. Upon making contact with Gartner, police observed indicators suggesting intoxication and field sobriety tests confirmed impairment. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and was given an opportunity to submit to a chemical test of his breath but he refused. DUI » Zachary D. Orendorf, 20, of Hockessin was arrested and charged with DUI (Controlled Substances) and related traffic offenses, as well as with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act (Act 64), after the 2015 Jeep he was driving was stopped for crossing the yellow center lines on multiple occasions, while traveling at a high rate of speed through a residential community. The incident occurred on July 21 at 2:27 a.m., in the 400 block of Buttonwood Road, in New Garden. DRUG CHARGES » Terence A. Battin, 22, of Wilmington, Del. was arrested and charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act (Act 64), and with a traffic offense, after he was found to be in possession of approximately one pound of marijuana and related drug paraphernalia. The incident occurred on July 24 at 1:23 p.m., in the 1300 block of Newark Road, in New Garden. The 2005 Jaguar that Battin was driving was stopped for an equipment violation and police were met with the strong odor of marijuana when they approached the vehicle. DUI » Noel Ellian Trillo, 18, of Newark, Del. was arrested and charged with DUI (Controlled Substances) and a related traffic offense, as well as with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act (Act 64), after the 2012 Volkswagen he was driving became involved in a single-vehicle crash. The incident occurred on July 22 at 12:31 a.m., in the area of Laurel Heights Road and Penn Green Road, in New Garden Township. FIREWORKS » Three male juveniles, ages 14 to 16 years old, from Kennett Square and Oxford were charged with terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, and/or with criminal conspiracy to commit these offenses, following an incident, in which they are alleged to have set off a smoke bomb-type fireworks device, inside of a grocery store. They then lit fireworks off in front of the store entrance. The incident occurred on July 19 at. 5:15 p.m., at the Giant Food Store, located at 350 Scarlett Road, in New Garden Township. DRUG CHARGES » John E. Gift, 56, of Landenberg was charged with violations of the controlled substance, drug, device, and cosmetic act, and with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, after he was found to be growing marijuana and was found to be in possession of heroin. The incident occurred on May 24 in the 200 block of Landenberg Road, in New Garden Township. Police had been summoned to the scene for a suspected drug overdose.
Coatesville
ASSAULT » On Aug. 18, Coatesville police received a report of an assault in front of the Midway Grill, 704 East Lincoln Highway. The victim and her boyfriend alleged that they were confronted by Samuel “Sammy” Grove, 58, of the 500 block of Olive Street in Coatesville in the parking lot of the Midway and Grove initiated an argument regarding his belief that the grocery bag that the boyfriend was carrying in fact belonged to Grove. During the argument, Grove struck the victim, a 26-year-old Coatesville woman, in the face one time then forcibly threw the victim onto the ground, causing injuries. Grove then followed the victim and her 27-year-old boyfriend down the sidewalk after they attempted to leave the area. Charges were filed against Grove as a result of the incident.
