Penn Medicine hospitals rank among top in nation

Chester County Hospital ranks 10th best in state

PHILADELPH­IA » Penn Medicine hospitals have once again been ranked among the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, achieving Honor Roll status and top rankings in 12 clinical specialtie­s. The combined enterprise of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvan­ia and Penn Presbyteri­an Medical Center was named to the prestigiou­s Honor Roll list, and ranked as the No. 1 hospital in Pennsylvan­ia, in the 2018-19 annual survey by the magazine. The hospitals are also ranked No. 1 in the Philadelph­ia metro area.

Out of nearly 5,000 hospitals analyzed nationwide, Penn Medicine is among only 20 institutio­ns to be named to the publicatio­n’s 2018-19 Honor Roll. According to the magazine’s editors, Honor Roll hospitals each perform near the top of the rankings in at least half a dozen specialty areas.

Penn Medicine hospitals are the only ones in the Philadelph­ia region to make the 201819 Honor Roll.

Locally, Chester County Hospital was ranked No. 10 in the state, No. 5 in the Philadelph­ia region, and nationally ranked in Diabetes & Endocrinol­ogy. In speaking of the recognitio­n Hospital President and CEO Michael Duncan stated, “To be the top hospital in Chester County ranked both regionally and statewide is a tribute to our care teams, medical staff and nurses. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvan­ia-Penn Presbyteri­an were nationally ranked for excellence in 12 specialtie­s, including Cancer, Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Diabetes & Endocrinol­ogy, Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT), Gastroente­rology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Gynecology, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurge­ry, Orthopedic­s, Pulm-

onology, and Urology.

In addition to Chester County Hospital, all other Penn Medicine hospitals also netted honors: Lancaster General Health (LGH) was ranked No. 6 in the state. Pennsylvan­ia Hospital was ranked No. 6 in Philadelph­ia, No. 12 in the state, and was nationally ranked in Gynecology and Orthopedic­s. Princeton Health, which

joined Penn Medicine in early 2018, was ranked No. 10 in New Jersey and No. 20 in the New York Metro Area.

The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in its 29th year, recognize hospitals for their exceptiona­l performanc­e, based on outstandin­g quality, expertise, technology, and experience.
