CALN » Coatesville Area School District Board President Dean Snyder has informed the board and administration that he is resigning for personal reasons. The resignation was submitted by letter to the board on Aug. 31.

“It has been a privilege and honor to have served our district,” Snyder said in his letter of resignation.

“On behalf of the district, we want to thank Mr. Snyder for his service to the district,” said Dr. Cathy Taschner, Superintendent of Schools, who received Snyder’s letter notifying the board of his intention. “The board will now begin the process of filling the vacancy.”

The board will make every attempt to fill the position in as open and transparent a way as possible. The board encourages anyone in Region II who is interested in serving on the school board to submit their resume and letter of interest via email to Board Recording Secretary, Karen L. Jackson at jacksonk@casdschools.org.

“Under Pennsylvania’s School Code, the board has 30 days to fill the vacancy,” said District Solicitor Michael Levin. The board will review all applications received, and will set a date for a public meeting to do public interviews with each of the perspective candidates.

During his tenure on the board, Snyder served as president of the board, served on the finance committee and other committees, has been actively involved in the master facility planning process, hiring of a communications support service and has served on the negotiations committee which has resulted in agreements with the Act 93, CATA, The Teamsters and the CAFEE. Snyder has been involved in many projects during his tenure and has given generously to the community during holiday projects, support at fundraising efforts attendance at numerous events. His term expires in November 2019. The new candidate will serve out the rest of his term, and would need to run for election in the May primary if the candidate was interested in continuing on the board following the expiration of the seat in 2019.
