Ellis scores only goal as Westtown beats D-West in girls soccer opener

Westtown School sophomore Emily Ellis scored the game’s only goal as the Moose opened their girls soccer season with an impressive 1-0 nonleague win over Downingtow­n West on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Ella Broadhurst got the assist on the Ellis goal. GREAT VALLEY 4, TWIN VALLEY1» The Patriots picked up their second win of the year on the road in a nonleague affair. Mary Deitch had two goals, Emma Gray and Rose Bleahen each had one for Great Valley.. Leigh Chamberlai­n and Emma Gray each had an assist.

Boys Soccer

GREAT VALLEY 2, TWIN VALLEY 0 » Nate McKay and Matthew Wellener found the net for the Patriots (3-0 overall) in the nonleague road win.

Goalies Alek Romanowich (five saves) and Quintin Wrabley (four saves) combined on the shutout for Great Valley. The defense, led by Dean Fitzgerald, Liam Palmer, Elvin Baci, Duncan Barth and keeper Quintin Wrabley was up to the task and kept Twin Valley at bay.

Field Hockey

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 1, GARNET VALLEY 1 » Christine Ditizio scored the Golden Knights’ only goal as Rustin dominated the first half and held on in the second for the nonleague draw. Rustin (1-0, 3-0-1) goalie Meg Hadfield was incredible in the cage, stopping 24 of 25 shots as the Jaguars piled up 20 corners, including six in a row at one point. Kendall DiCamillo scored the lone goal for Garnet Valley.

Girls Tennis

RUSTIN 7, OXFORD 0 » Julie DiCampli, Ana Petrosky and Mary Emma Guldi swept through the singles matches as the Golden Knights picked up the ChesMont win. Guldi got a tough fight at No. 3 singles from Oxford’s Mary Combs before winning 6-2, 7-5. In doubles, the teams of Anna Hedstrom and Abby Kane, Ava Dobbs and Carson O’Leary, Katie Slachta and Natalia Bula, and Nora Batchelor and Catherine Zhu rolled over the Hornets, with Rustin (4-1, 5-1) dropping just one game in each match. UNIONVILLE 6, METHACTON 0 » The Indians picked up the nonleague win rather easily, with the seventh match called due to rain. Bailey Santaguida and Faith Ilgner picked up a big win at No. 1 doubles, while Riley Moriarty and Mauria Blair came from behind to win in three sets at fourth doubles.

Boys Golf

GREAT VALLEY 220, TWIN VALLEY 232 » Griffin Lownes shot 50 over 12 holes to lead the Patriots to a nonleague win at Flying Hills. Tyler Teague (55), Daniel Muck (58) and Chase Wolgamott (57) followed behind Lownes. Josh Danielowsk­i (56) was the low scorer for Twin Valley.

Girls Volleyball

UNIONVILLE 3, SPRING-FORD 2» Sophie Brenner had 25 kills and 13 digs as the Indians pulled out a tough five-set nonleague win, 2125, 25-21, 25-13, 24-26, 15-13. Kat Tuerff had 11 blocks and Morgan Canino had seven aces for Unionville (2-1 overall). GREAT VALLEY 3, TWIN VALLEY0» Claire Reiser, Karlee Ray, Sarah Karwoski and Abby Kennedy led the way for the Patriots in the nonleague straight-set win.

Women’s Golf

WEST CHESTER FIFTH IN ERIE » Juliarose Genuardi shot the Golden Rams’ low round with a 78 to help WCU to a team score of 341 in the first round at the Evann Parker Memorial Fall Invitation­al. The Rams sit in fifth place, seven shots behind leader Gannon, heading into Saturday’s final round. Meghan O’Mara and Bridget Pyott both shot 87, followed by Dominique Marchese (89).
