Rustin rolls over Coatesvill­e to remain unbeaten

The West Chester Rustin field hockey team (5-0-1 overall, 3-0 Ches-Mont) rolled past host Coatesvill­e, 5-2, Wednesday evening, getting goals from five different players - Morgan Becker, Christine Ditizio, Blaise Cugini, Skylar Alcaro and Kylie Kuders. Rustin goalie Meg Hadfield recorded seven saves.

Rustin head coach Susie Macciocca said, “This was a total team effort, with beautiful passing combinatio­ns.”

Boys Cross Country

UNIONVILLE 22, KENNETT 36 » Colton Walker (first place, 10:11) and Ethan McIntyre (second, 10:14) led the way for the Indians in their first meet of the season. Kennett runners Gavin Maxwell (third, 10:17) and David Piercy (fourth, 10:36) led the way for the Blue Demons. OXFORD 15, SUN VALLEY 50 » The Hornets captured their home opener, led by Evan Campbell (first place, 19:02), Bruce Trimmer (second, 19:37), Luke Campbell (third, 19:40), Gavin Fitzgerald (fourth, 19:48) and Nick Marker (fifth, 19:52). GREAT VALLEY 15, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 50 » The Patriots took the top nine spots, led by Michael Search (first place, 17:52), Ryan Small (second, 18:03), Hayden Coates (third, 18:18), Riley Casey (fourth, 18:18.4) and Seth Hoffritz (fifth, 18:18.6).

Girls Cross Country

UNIONVILLE 24, KENNETT 35 » Marcella Krautzel (first place, 13:27) and Madison McGovern (second, 13:27) led the way for the Indians in their first meet of the season. Kennett runners Rachel Hyzny and Gina Lusvardi placed 3-4, with a time of 13:33. OXFORD 15, SUN VALLEY 50 » The Hornets won their home opener, led by Taj Lanier (first place, 23:27), Christina Jimenez (second, 23:47), Lizzie Estes (third, 24:48), Abby Oliver (fourth, 26:17) and Emma Iaquinto (fifth, 26:18).

GREAT VALLEY 26, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 29 » The Patriots took three of the top four spots, led by Amy Willig (first, 20:51), Annalise Porreca (second, 21:29) and Emily Mathews (fourth, 22:50). For the Golden Knights, Grace Schesinger (22:43) was third and Faith Schmidt (23:20) was fifth.

GREAT VALLEY 208, GLEN MILLS 284 » The Patriots were led by Tyler Teague, who shot a 2-over-par 37 at Chester Valley Golf Club, and teammates Daniel Muck (42), Chase Wolgamott (42), Matt Curtis (43) and Griffin Lownes (44). GREAT VALLEY 208, SUN VALLEY 288 » Great Valley was led by four seniors - Tyler Teague (37), Daniel Muck (42), Chase Wolgamott (42) and Griffin Lownes (44) as well as junior Matt Curtis (43) in a tri-meet at Chester Valley Golf Club. KENNETT 220, GARNET VALLEY 227 » The Blue Demons (8-4, 7-3) were led by Griffin Haas (42), Jack Ryan (44), Zach Lindner (44), Nimah Narinsingh-Smith (45) and Luke Mullen (45) in the nonleague match at Hartefeld National.

PHOENIXVIL­LE 204, GREAT VALLEY 221 » The Patriots lost to Phoenixvil­le in a tri-meet at Chester Valley Golf Club. Great Valley senior Amanda Heins (48) led the way for the Patriots.

DEVON PREP 3, ACADEMY OF NEW CHURCH 1» The host Tide (2-1, 1-0) won this non-laegue contest with goals from Colman Egan, Chris Walton and Connor Kelly.

Girls Volleyball

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 3, CONESTOGA 0 » The Golden Knights (4-0), who posted scores of 25-8, 25-16, 25-22, were led by Olivia Stasen (12 assists, three aces, Emma Klanica (nine kills, four blocks) and Katja Tuominen (four blocks). RIDLEY 3, UNIONVILLE 1 » After winning the first set 25-16, the Indians (32) dropped the next three, 17-25, 23-25, 23-25. For Unionville, Isabelle Turpin had seven kills and Genna Weeber had six blocks.

HILL SCHOOL 16, MALVERN PREP 7 » Host Malvern Prep’s young team fell to an experience­d Hill squad, as Friars goalie Jake Caulfield played very well in the loss, making 23 saves. Freshmen Ryan Cochran led the Malvern Prep scoring with three goals and an assist. Jack Cassidy had two goals and two assists and Brennan Robinson had a pair of goals, an assist, six steals and two blocked shots to lead the defensive effort by the young Friars, who fell to 0-3-1 in nonleague action.

WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY 1, EAST STROUDSBUR­G 0 » The Golden Rams (2-1) won their PSAC opener, getting an early goal off the foot of Jason Pixley, who turned a cross from Eric Greer into a goal. WCU goalie Will Marshall, making his first start in goal as a Golden Ram, posted five saves. Pixley remains the only Golden Ram to score a goal in 2018 as he tallied his second goal of the season in the victory. Greer recorded his first collegiate assist.
