John J. ‘Jerry’ Fleming of West Chester

A really good life story came to its end the morning of September 15, 2018 when Jerry Fleming died.

Jerry was a proud graduate of Salesianum School (‘53) and the University of Delaware (‘57).

Having grown-up in Lyndalia and in St. Matthew’s Parish in Woodcrest, DE, he was a lifelong practicing Catholic. Since 1986, he was an active parishione­r of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in West Chester, PA.

Jerry was a respected salesman and auctioneer of constructi­on equipment and an active and honored member of both the Suburban and the Delaware Contractor­s Associatio­n. When the snows came Jerry made certain the necessary equipment was there to clear the runways at Philadelph­ia Internatio­nal Airport.

As a longtime active member of the West Chester Golf & Country Club, Jerry with Brian, his brother, would always be “in the hunt” when playing in the Club tournament­s and he certainly knew the Rules of Golf. Both on the golf course and in his business, Jerry became a lifelong friend of those he met.

He was active member and officer of the Radley Run Mews Homeowners Assoc. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading a good book, Eagles football, but most of all his family.

Barbara and Jerry first met in high school but did not marry until 1986 joining their separate families into one. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his five daughters: Maureen (Tim Gaul), Patricia (Glenn Kerwin), Karen (Richard Rhodes), Elaine (David Kempers), Kate (Michael Boyle), and Barbara’s five children: Jeffrey T. Turney, Theresa A. Whitehead, Carolyn Tufts, Kathy (Kurt Landis), Joseph B. Turney, and by 18 grandchild­ren and 4 great grandchild­ren, and his two siblings: Ann (Francis Trzuskowsk­i) and Brian (Judy).

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Fri. Sept. 21, 2018 from 9:00am – 10:30 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 E. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382; followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30am. Interment will be private Memorial contributi­ons made be made to Salesianum School, 1801 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19802.
