CROWDS EXPECTED FOR COATESVILL­E GRAND PRIX

COATESVILL­E » Thousands of people are expected for the third annual Coatesvill­e Invitation­al Vintage Grand Prix this Saturday, Sept. 22, starting at 8:30 a.m.

“I am hoping this is something that continues every year,” said Kelly MacNamee Davis, who attended last year’s event. “My family and I had a great time. It was great to see so many people in Coatesvill­e get out to enjoy it.”

Said Tim Hewczuk: “This is something I’ve dreamed of having happen locally since I was 14 years old. I’m still tripping over seeing a Carrera 6 and 904 in person.”

The event, hosted by the City of Coatesvill­e, benefits Coatesvill­e’s Parks and Recreation Department, and is free to the public. It kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with a Color Guard ceremony. Cars go off at 9 a.m. and follow a 2.2 mile course along Lincoln Highway encompassi­ng the heart of the city and its neighborho­ods. The Start/Finish line is located at Third and Lincoln Highway.

Vendors and food trucks will be located right in the middle of all the action, at Third Avenue and Harmony Street.

The event is open to the following cars and motorcycle­s:

1900 to 1940 open-wheel race cars — $200 per car.

1940 to 1970 4-cylinder normally aspirated vintage race cars —$200 per car.

1940 to 1970 6-cylinder normally aspirated vintage race cars— $200 per car.

1940 to 1970 8 and 12-cylinder normally aspirated vintage race cars —$200 per car.

1940 to 1970 vintage motorcycle­s —$200 per motorcycle.

1940 to 1970 Lunch Time Touring, open to all stock vintage cars and motorcycle­s — $50.

This year there will be vintage and classic motorcycle­s from 1940 to 1970. There is a maximum of 20 vehicles allowed, and cost is $50. This 20-minute run session will be led by a pace car. The session begins at noon and ends at 12:30 p.m.

Available parking areas include the Coatesvill­e Train Station at Third Avenue and Fleetwood Street, Abdala Park at Ol-

ive Street and East Lincoln Highway, and G.O. Carlson lot at Church Street. Free shuttles will be running from the parking lots to event areas during the day.

Starting Friday, Sept. 21 at noon, through Saturday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m., there will be no parking in the following areas:

• Both sides of East Lincoln Highway from First Ave to Eighth Avenue.

• Both sides of South Eighth Avenue from East Lincoln Highway to Oak Street.

• Both sides of Oak Street from South Eighth Avenue to South First Avenue.

• Both sides of South First Avenue from Oak Street to East Lincoln Highway.

• Both sides of Maple Avenue from South First Avenue to South Third Avenue.

• Both sides of South Third Avenue from Walnut Street to East Lincoln Highway.

Any vehicles found parked in the designated areas during the specified times will be towed.

There will be pedestrian and vehicle crossing access points during race day. These access points will be open every 15 to 20 minutes at Fourth Avenue and East Lincoln Highway, Sixth Avenue and East Lincoln Highway, Walnut Street and South Eighth Avenue, Woodland Avenue and Oak Street, and Fifth Avenue and East Lincoln Highway.
