LaMancha to host inaugural obstacle race

UNIONVILLE » LaMancha Animal Rescue will host its inaugural running of the Dirty Dawg Race to Rescue 5k Obstacle Course Race on Saturday, Sept. 29, in Unionville.

“We designed a very fun 3-plus miles and 12-plus running, jumping, climbing and crawling obstacles around the rolling countrysid­e that include wooded trails along beautiful pastures,” said Bob Wilpizeski, director at LaMancha Animal Rescue. “As you tackle your challenges during the Dirty Dawg Race to Rescue, your much-needed donations will be used to help support our lifesaving animal rescue work, care and adoption programs that benefit dogs, cats, horses and farm animals of all types. There’s no better feeling than helping those who can’t help themselves!”

The race will take place at LaMancha Animal Rescue, 855 Doe Run Road, just outside of Unionville There will be five waves every 15 minutes starting at 8:30 a.m.

The cost to register is $55 per person until Sept. 26, 2018. Race Day: Sept. 29, 2018: $60 per person from 6:30-7:30 a.m. only. Registrati­on fees are nonrefunda­ble.

Team awards and medals for participan­ts, but the animals are the grand prize recipients.

Volunteer positions include: parking and traffic management, registrati­on/packet pick-up, obstacle monitor Aid stations, finish line services, and clean-up.

LaMancha Animal Rescue is a qualified public charity under IRC section 501(C) 3, originally formed as an alternativ­e to the slaughterh­ouse for ex racehorses. Many of these horses are perfectly sound, but simply too slow to continue racing. Some are injured, but can be healed to make suitable trail riding mounts, show horses, and threeday eventers.
