Golf tournament to benefit charities
Golfing for a great cause will take place for the eighth year at Whitford Country Club this weekend.
EXTON » Golfing for a great cause will take place for the eighth year at Whitford Country Club this weekend.
Since its inception in 2011, the Whitford Charitable Fund has dispersed over $850,000 to more than 50 local organizations in Chester County.
This year, the highlight of the Classic is the festive Friday night Gala Dinner Dance Auction. Whitford membership, charities, along with friends, will convene to create awareness and raise money for the good works in the community.
The Whitford Charitable Fund is a nonprofit organization founded by members of the Whitford Country Club, located in Exton. The mission is to “give something back” to qualified nonprofit organizations in Chester County who perform good works in the community.
In collaboration with the Chester County Community Foundation, the Charitable Fund Committee annually selects beneficiaries, nominated by members of Whitford Country Club, which share in the proceeds for the Whitford Charitable Fund Classic held annually in September.
The weekend kicks off with a ladies’ tennis tournament on Friday, a sponsors’ team golf event on Saturday, and a golf Pro-Am event on Sunday.
Activities include virtually every aspect of Whitford Country Club in a spirit of “giving something back” to the community where members live, work and raise their families.
“Whitford members take great pride in donating our facilities, time, items and money to support the Clas-
sic every year,” Andrew McReynolds, President of Whitford Country Clubs said.
Ten groups were chosen as the 2018 beneficiaries: The Coatesville Senior Center, CVIM; Smiles for Jackie Fund; The Downingtown Library; North Star of Chester County; LaSata Farm; Phoenixville Area Children’s Learning Center; Safe Harbor of Chester County; Great Valley Community Organization; Uptown Entertainment; and Westside Community Center.
The proceeds, estimated at $100,000, will be raised by individual and business sponsorships for golf, tennis, hole, putting green and driving range sponsors. At the dinner/dance Gala on Friday night, there is both a live and silent auction, and a high level raffle. As a partnership between the Whitford membership and the local organizations chosen this year, each beneficiary attends and participates by donating a basket for auction, and some sponsorship, as well as links on their websites.
Ed Hart, Chairman of the Whitford Charitable said, “One of the most rewarding outcomes of the Whitford Classic, is seeing the chosen beneficiaries come together for a common goal. Many go on to work together and help each other in efforts to further their missions in the community.”
