- Digital First Media

WEST CHESTER >> The Chester County Commissioners proclaimed Hispanic Heritage Month in Chester County at this week’s public Sunshine Meeting and recognized the work of La Comunidad Hispana, presenting a check for $25,000 to LeeAnn Riloff, Development Director for the non-profit.

The funds granted to La Comunidad are part of the County’s annual appropriations to organizations and non-profits and will be used by La Comunidad to expand dental services provided to the increasing number of residents that the non-profit serves.

The commissioners also announced the addition of Spanish translation to key webpages on the County’s website, chesco.org. “It is fitting that we begin to offer the Spanish translation service on our website during Hispanic Heritage Month, and it is our intention to expand the number of pages translated over the coming year,” said Chester County Commissioner Terence Farrell, during the public Sunshine Meeting.

Pages that have been translated cover many of Chester County’s Human Services departments, the Health department, courts, prison, probation, parks, our Prothonotary’s Office, Register of Wills office and services provided through the Treasurer’s Office. The home page of Chesco.org provides a link to all web pages translated into Spanish, and on each page available for translation, a clear “Espanol” icon is displayed.

Miguel Alban, Vice President of Multicultural Banking for Bryn Mawr Trust and Founder and President of The Hispanic Approach located in southern Chester County, provided the translation services for the County.

As noted in the commissioners’ proclamation for Hispanic Heritage Month, Latino-Hispanics are the largest ethnic minority group in the United States, the fastest growing minority community in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and in Chester County.
