Downingtow­n East cruises past Henderson

The final outcome wasn’t much in doubt on Friday as unbeaten Downingtow­n East clobbered winless West Chester Henderson 53-13 at Oscar Dicks Stadium. The Cougars’ Garvey Jonassaint scored on East’s first play from scrimmage and Stanley Bryant a fumble recovery for a touchdown. The score was 53-7 at the half.

James Baisilli, Cameron Feamster and Justin Townsend each had intercepti­ons for the Cougars (4-0, 7-0 overall). Both of Henderson’s scores came against the Cougars’ backups.

Volleyball

OXFORD 3, AVON GROVE 0 >> The Hornets topped the Red Devils 25-13, 25-11, 2518. Ashley Jones (10 assists, four aces), Sydney Pearson (12 digs, five aces) and Emily Griffin (seven kills, eight digs) led the way for Oxford.

Girls Tennis

DISTRICT 1 SINGLES CHAMPIONSH­IP >> Downingtow­n West’s Jordan Bradley and Conestoga’s Cassidy Landau each advanced to the quarterfin­als of the Class 3A tournament. Bradley topped Phoenisxvi­lle’s Julia Gumienak 6-0, 6-1 in round two. Landau needed three sets to dispatch Methacton’s Tina Price 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

Girls Soccer

BISHOP SHANAHAN 1, POTTSGROVE 0 >> Ally Waite scored the only goal of the match for the Eagles. Goalie Jess Gorr notched the shutout and Fiona Burke headlined the Shanahan defense. WESTTOWN 5, FRIENDS SCHOOL 0 >> Abbie Barth scored three times to lead the Quakers. Laurens Van-Alen and Emily Blumenfeld also scored for Westtown (1-1, 3-3 overall).

College Women’s Tennis

MERCYHURST 5, WEST CHESTER 2 >> The Rams won two of four singles matches but were swept in doubles. The singles winners were Rylee Power at No 1. and Danisa Errid at No. 3. IMMACULATA 8, PENNSTATE ABINGTON 1 >> The Mighty Macs improved to 2-1 overall with a win in their home opener. The No. 2 doubles team of Caitlin Savage and Susan Callahan staged a comeback to win 9-7, who won all three doubles matches.

Women’s Voleyball

SHIPPENSBU­RG 3, WEST CHESTER 0 >> Golden Rams fell to the Red Raiders 2225, 23-25, 16-25. West Chester (5-3, 16-3) was led by Allie Duffy (eight kills), Jillian Grammer (25 assists) and Nicki Yates (18 digs).
