Mortimer B. Bauer of Paoli
Mortimer B. Bauer, age 88, passed on October 3, 2018, of Paoli, PA. He was born on August 30, 1930 in Reading, PA, son of the late Kurt and Meta Bauer. His identical twin brother, Kurt, died in 1995.
Mort was raised in West Reading and Wyomissing, PA and spent his childhood summers in Ocean City, NJ. He was a graduate of Wyomissing High School (1948) and Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) (1952). He served his country honorably as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.
He was employed by the Insurance Company of North America (now CIGNA) for 36 years. Starting in Philadelphia, his career took him to Pittsburgh, San Jose, Seattle, Detroit and back to the City of Brotherly Love. Beginning as a management trainee, he concluded his career as a Regional Director. Mort also formed a real estate partnership in Ocean City with his brother Kurt where they operated The Brentwood Lodge and another rental property.
Mort was an avid golfer and a dedicated long distance runner. From Pebble Beach to Scotland, he played golf for over 50 years. He ran races of all kinds with his favorites the Broad Street Run and the U.S. Marine Corps Marathon.
Mort is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Libby), as well as his daughter Amy and her husband Wally Smith of Devon, PA; and his son Douglas and his wife Alison of Montclair, NJ, and their two sons Nathaniel and Jeremiah.
Friends and relatives can remember Mort at a service on Saturday, October 13 at 11 am in the Memorial Chapel at Paoli Presbyterian Church, 225 South Valley Road, in Paoli, PA.
