Elementary school closes due to outage
An overnight rainstorm knocked the power out at Uwchlan Hills Elementary School.
UWCHLAN – It’s a longer weekend for some Downingtown students.
Downingtown Area School District officials became aware early Friday morning that an overnight rainstorm knocked the power out at Uwchlan Hills Elementary School in Uwchlan Township. Peck Road was also closed and school officials also learned that the school buses and staff members would not be able to travel to the school. Patricia McGlone, spokeswoman for the district said calls to school officials came in at about 6:30 a.m. Friday and they “hustled to close the school” and inform the students, parents and teachers.
“Uwchlan Hills Elementary School will be closed (Friday), October 12, 2018, due to a power outage and road closures in the area,” the school district Facebook states.
Staff and students were informed via email and by a text alert about the closure. A notice was also posted on the district website and the district’s social media accounts. Downingtown schools Superintendent Emilie Lonardi also made a phone call.
“We are pleasantly pleased with how well our notification system works,” McGlone said.
Uwchlan Hills teachers are working a professional staff development day at the administration building in East Caln Township while students have a day off from school. PECO did not immediately state when the power is expected to be restored.
