D’Town West, Henderson well represente­d in doubles semis

Downingtow­n West and West Chester Henderson will be well represente­d in the Ches-Mont League National Division doubles semifinals Saturday. After Friday’s action, two duos from each school were left standing.

In one semifinal, Henderson’s Hannah Baxter and Jessica Liu will face Tali Levine and Nicole Dixon. In the other match, West’s Holly and Sophie Koons will meet Henderson’s Lauren Knopp and Olivia Zoretic.

All four teams rolled into the semis relatively easily, with the closest thing to challenges coming when Levine and Dickson beat West Chester East’s Amber Nguyen and Ting Mariani, 7-5, 7-5, and Knopp and Zoretic defeating Downingtow­n East’s Kaitlyn Fisher and Sneha Suthakar, 7-5, 6-4.

Girls Volleyball

WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 3, ACADEMY PARK 0 >> Caitlyn Somers had three aces and three kills, and Dani Rodden had four kills in the nonleague win for the Warriors, 25-8, 25-17, 25-9. UNIONVILLE 3, PHOENIXVIL­LE 2 >> Elizabeth Sauerbaum had 23 assists, Sophie Brenner had 24 kills and Kat Tuerff had 14 kills in a back-and-forth nonleague win for the Indians, 17-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-12, 15-10.

Field Hockey

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 8, WEST CHESTER EAST 3 >> Anna Miller scored four goals, and Julianna Smyth and Mia Garber added two each for the Whippets in the win. Smyth had three assists, and Lauren Tinsen, Kari Schmidt, Celina Riccardo, Cianna Riccardo each added an assist. GREAT VALLEY 7, STRATH HAVEN2>> Alex Thomas had a hat trick, Aiden Drabick had two goals, and Carly Stello and Marley Alleva added one goal each in the nonleague win for the Patriots. Drabick added two assists, and Mackenzie Hilditch also notched an assist. Caleigh Dinsmore, Sarah Flynn, and Kennedy Graham ran the defense and Grace Marsters earned multiple corners on the attack. SPRING-FORD 7, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 3 >> Lauren Franco, Gianna Cogino and Lauren Folling scored for Henderson in the nonleague loss.

Boys Soccer

MALVERN PREP 3, PENN CHARTER 1 >> Goals by Matt Lamond, Tucker Milhous and Matt Traynor carried the Friars to the Inter-Ac win. Austin Coron had five saves, with one of which was on a penalty kick.

Boys Water Polo

MALVERN PREP 17, PENN CHARTER 12 >> The Friars’ offense sprung to life for their first Inter-Ac victory of the season (1-3) in its home pool. Malvern’s Jack Cassidy led all scorers with eight goals and three ejections drawn. Ryan Cochran had three goals and two assists, Brennan Robinson had a pair of goals and five assists, while Gavin Kane, Owen Preston, Erik Yablonski and Chris Krein each scored a goal to round out Malvern’s scoring attack.

Men’s Soccer

WEST CHESTER 1, GANNON 0 >> Jason Pixley headed home the winner in the 89th minute off a cross from Daniel Grindrod as the Golden Rams picked up a big road win at Gannon.

Women’s Soccer

GANNON 3, WEST CHESTER 2 >> The Golden Rams fell on the road in a PSAC upset, Gannon stormed back in the second half for the win. Linzi Wolfe and Shannon Cooley scored the goals for West Chester, with Unionville grad Hannah Grandell assisting on Wolfe’s firsthalf goal.
