D’Town West, Henderson well rep­re­sented in dou­bles semis

Down­ing­town West and West Ch­ester Henderson will be well rep­re­sented in the Ches-Mont League Na­tional Di­vi­sion dou­bles semi­fi­nals Satur­day. Af­ter Fri­day’s ac­tion, two duos from each school were left stand­ing.

In one semi­fi­nal, Henderson’s Han­nah Bax­ter and Jes­sica Liu will face Tali Levine and Nicole Dixon. In the other match, West’s Holly and So­phie Koons will meet Henderson’s Lau­ren Knopp and Olivia Zoretic.

All four teams rolled into the semis rel­a­tively eas­ily, with the clos­est thing to chal­lenges com­ing when Levine and Dick­son beat West Ch­ester East’s Am­ber Nguyen and Ting Mar­i­ani, 7-5, 7-5, and Knopp and Zoretic de­feat­ing Down­ing­town East’s Kait­lyn Fisher and Sneha Suthakar, 7-5, 6-4.

Girls Vol­ley­ball

WEST CH­ESTER HENDERSON 3, ACADEMY PARK 0 >> Cait­lyn Somers had three aces and three kills, and Dani Rod­den had four kills in the non­league win for the War­riors, 25-8, 25-17, 25-9. UNIONVILLE 3, PHOENIXVILLE 2 >> El­iz­a­beth Sauer­baum had 23 as­sists, So­phie Bren­ner had 24 kills and Kat Tuerff had 14 kills in a back-and-forth non­league win for the In­di­ans, 17-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-12, 15-10.

Field Hockey

DOWN­ING­TOWN WEST 8, WEST CH­ESTER EAST 3 >> Anna Miller scored four goals, and Ju­lianna Smyth and Mia Gar­ber added two each for the Whip­pets in the win. Smyth had three as­sists, and Lau­ren Tin­sen, Kari Sch­midt, Celina Ric­cardo, Cianna Ric­cardo each added an as­sist. GREAT VAL­LEY 7, STRATH HAVEN2>> Alex Thomas had a hat trick, Ai­den Dra­bick had two goals, and Carly Stello and Mar­ley All­eva added one goal each in the non­league win for the Pa­tri­ots. Dra­bick added two as­sists, and Macken­zie Hilditch also notched an as­sist. Caleigh Dins­more, Sarah Flynn, and Kennedy Gra­ham ran the de­fense and Grace Marsters earned mul­ti­ple cor­ners on the at­tack. SPRING-FORD 7, WEST CH­ESTER HENDERSON 3 >> Lau­ren Franco, Gianna Cogino and Lau­ren Folling scored for Henderson in the non­league loss.

Boys Soc­cer

MALVERN PREP 3, PENN CHAR­TER 1 >> Goals by Matt La­mond, Tucker Mil­hous and Matt Traynor car­ried the Fri­ars to the In­ter-Ac win. Austin Coron had five saves, with one of which was on a penalty kick.

Boys Wa­ter Polo

MALVERN PREP 17, PENN CHAR­TER 12 >> The Fri­ars’ of­fense sprung to life for their first In­ter-Ac vic­tory of the sea­son (1-3) in its home pool. Malvern’s Jack Cas­sidy led all scor­ers with eight goals and three ejec­tions drawn. Ryan Cochran had three goals and two as­sists, Bren­nan Robin­son had a pair of goals and five as­sists, while Gavin Kane, Owen Pre­ston, Erik Yablon­ski and Chris Krein each scored a goal to round out Malvern’s scor­ing at­tack.

Men’s Soc­cer

WEST CH­ESTER 1, GAN­NON 0 >> Ja­son Pix­ley headed home the win­ner in the 89th minute off a cross from Daniel Grindrod as the Golden Rams picked up a big road win at Gan­non.

Women’s Soc­cer

GAN­NON 3, WEST CH­ESTER 2 >> The Golden Rams fell on the road in a PSAC up­set, Gan­non stormed back in the sec­ond half for the win. Linzi Wolfe and Shan­non Coo­ley scored the goals for West Ch­ester, with Unionville grad Han­nah Gran­dell as­sist­ing on Wolfe’s firsthalf goal.
