Rustin’s Hung, DiCampli win C-M American doubles title

The West Chester Rustin duo of Cassie Hung and Julie DiCampli captured the Ches-Mont League American Division doubles title at West Chester Rustin High School Saturday, defeating Great Valley’s Kate Corrigan and Brooke Oberly in the championsh­ip finals, 6-2, 6-2. Hung and DiCampli came back to defeat Unionville’s Bailey Santaguida and Faith Ilgner in the semifinals, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3; while Corrigan and Oberly defeated the top seed, Unionville’s Eliza Wilks and Saanvi Garg, in the other semifinal, 6-4, 6-4. In the third-place match, Wilks and Garg defeated Ilgner and Santaguida, 6-2, 6-3.

CHESTER RUSTIN 1 » The victorious Warriors got goals from Liv Griffith (penalty stroke) and Ella Fulling (assisted by Lauren Fulling) and five saves from goalie Abby Martin. Rustin’s goal was scored by Shannon Drakely, and Golden Knights goalie goalie Meg Hadfield had nine saves.

Boys’ Soccer

CONESTOGA 1, UNIONVILLE 0 » Matt Rossi scored the game’s only goal, with an assist from Nate Xu, with 12:08 left in the second half, for the Pioneers (15-1). Conestoga goalie Luke Smith had eight saves, and netminder Alex Dolce had six saves for Unionville (11-4-1). SPRING-FORD 2, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 1 » Chris Roberts scored the Warriors’ lone goal, and Henderson goalie Jon Jungkurth came up with three saves. CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2, GREAT VALLEY0» The Patriots (6-9-1) lost to host Central Bucks West, as CBW scored twice in the first 20 minutes. Great Valley’s Quintin Wrabley was outstandin­g in goal, making a number of keys saves, including a penalty kick, to keep the Patriots in the game.

GREAT VALLEY 3, MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH’S 0 » The Patriots, who posted scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-20, were led by Lindsay Gal and Sarah Karwoski, with strong serving from Jennie Mullen and Rachel Gober.

MALVERN PREP AT GILMAN CHALLENGE

» Malvern Prep (6-11-1) traveled to Gilman (Md.) School for the Gilman Challenge and finished 1-2 on the day. Jack Cassidy scored seven goals to lead all scorers in the 14-9 loss to Landon (Md.). Brennan Robinson had a pair of goals and four assists, and Jake Caulfield made 15 saves. In Game 2, a 9-8 win against Walt Whitman (Md.), the Friars had to come from behind after spotting Walt Whitman a 4-3 lead after the first quarter. Brennan Robinson led Malvern Prep with five goals, two assists and five steals. Jack Cassidy and Ryan Cochran each had a pair of goals. In the nightcap, a 13-8 loss to host Gilman, Malvern never recovered from a fourgoal deficit to start the game. The Friars played Gilman even in the second half behind five goals from Brennan Robinson and a pair of goals from Jack Cassidy.

College Field Hockey

WEST CHESTER 3, MERCYHURST 2 » The top-ranked Golden Rams (9-1, 4-0 PSCA) utilized a big second half against host Mercyhurst (2-9, 0-3 PSAC). For the Golden Rams, Katie Thompson scored two goals in a sixsecond span in the 41st minute to tie the score at 2-2, then teammate Emily Evans added a goal two minutes later. Marissa Elizardo made four saves for West Chester.

Women’s Swimming

WEST CHESTER 222, SHIPPENSBU­RG 115; WEST CHESTER 222, SOUTHERN

CONNECTICU­T STATE 129 » West Chester picked up four individual wins from four different swimmers, and added a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as the host Golden Rams (3-0) swept a tri-meet with guests Shippensbu­rg and Southern Connecticu­t State on Saturday morning. Georgia Wright won the 1,650 freestyle, Sydney Wareham won the 50 free and Megan Burns won the 200 backstroke to pace the Golden Rams’ effort. West Chester claimed the top two spots in four different events Saturday morning. Wright and teammate Jenna Fox went 1-2 in the mile while Wareham and Morgan Haines did the same in the 50 free, and Burns and Liz Miller turned the trick in the 200 back. The 200 medley relay also saw West Chester take the top two places as well. Miller and Wareham were part of the first-place 200 medley relay while Burns led off the second-place 200 medley relay.

Men’s Swimming

WEST CHESTER 194, SHIPPENSBU­RG 138; WEST CHESTER 214, SOUTHERN CONNECTICU­T STATE 121 » Keir Uhlin and Dylan North posted first-place showings while West Chester’s 200 medley relay was also a winner as the host Golden Rams swept a tri-meet with guests Shippensbu­rg and Southern Connecticu­t State on Saturday morning. West Chester (2-1) picked up a pair of wins following a seasonopen­ing loss at NYU last weekend. Uhlin, who was part of the 800-yard freestyle relay that picked up a firstplace ribbon Friday night, topped the field in the 1,650 free – just ahead of teammate Collin Pettit. Uhlin posted a time of 16 minutes, 36.02 seconds, showing an excellent time for a mile this early in the season. Pettit touched the wall in 16:43.35, which was also an excellent time.

Men’s Soccer

IMMACULATA 2, GWYNEDD MERCY 1 » The Mighty Macs (8-6-1, 3-0) claimed their fourth straight victory and third straight to start Atlantic East play, with a 2-1 overtime victory over Gwynedd Mercy (0-13-1, 0-3-1). Sophomore Chad Catlana scored the overtime game winner for Immaculata.

Women’s Rugby

WEST CHESTER 39, MOUNT ST. MARY’S

19» The No. 9 ranked Golden Rams (24) defeated No. 10 Mount St. Mary’s, as Coatesvill­e High School graduate Corrine Gallagher recorded her first Try of her college career, scoring five points at 63:40 to give WCU a 22-12 lead.
