Great Pumpkin Carve is coming!
Chadds Ford will once again be the site for the Great Pumpkin Carve
The nights are getting cooler, the leaves are changing colors and the splendor of fall is upon us. October is a glorious month, showcasing an Autumnal panorama of amber, crimson and gold, providing a scenic backdrop for flea markets, backroads farm stands and tours through the rustic countryside of Chester County. Most Americans know the season as a great time for enjoying lovely sunsets while dressed in blue jeans and flannel shirts. It is this setting which allows people to revel in the premier event on the calendar: the Great Pumpkin Carve, a very unique celebration enjoyed by thousands for more than 40 years, hosted by the Chadds Ford Historical Society.
First started by artists Andrew and Jamie Wyeth in the 1970s as they decorated the Chadds Ford Inn for Halloween, the Great Pumpkin Carve in the historic village of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania has garnered rave reviews and grown in popularity every year. This family-friendly festival features 70 local artists competing as they creatively carve huge pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns lit up for eerie displays. The pumpkins are spectacular- some of them weigh as much as 400 pounds. They will be lit by candlelight, showcased at the end of the carving beginning on Thursday Oct. 18, illuminated again the following two nights. Pumpkins are judged and winners declared in several categories: Best Overall, Most Halloween, Best Carving, Most Original
