’Stoga cops 6th straight perfect Central hockey title

The Conestoga High School field hockey team (14-3, 10-0) clinched its sixth straight undefeated Central League championsh­ip Tuesday, defeating Springfiel­d 10-0 on Senior Night. Charlotte de Vries led the way with seven goals and two assists, Chloe Ziegler netted two goals and dished out one assist, and Maddy Todd earned the shutout in goal for Conestoga. Other contributo­rs were Carson Snyder (one goal), Carly Hynd (one assist) and Sarah Rogalski (one assist).

Girls Soccer

CONESTOGA 5, SPRINGFIEL­D-DELCO 0 >> The host Pioneers (14-1-2, 10-0-1) retained their Central League title with the victory on Senior Night. Calista Courtney led the way for Conestoga with two goals, while Emily Wertz tallied after cutting in the from the wing to beat the keeper from just inside the 18, and also contribute­d an assist on Courtney’s second goal. Caitlin Donovan scored on a solo free-kick from the top of the 18 yard box for her 22nd goal of the season, and Abby Branov converted a penalty to cement the win. Sarah Nselel and Caroline Klaiber saw action in goal for Conestoga. The Pioneers have lost just one league game in the last three years.

BISHOP SHANAHAN 4, OXFORD 0 >> Ally Waite (two goals, two assists) led the Eagles, while Alaina McLaughlin and Julia Repetto each tallied one goal, and Sammie McCarter and Fiona Burke each dished out an assist. Jess Gorr and Allison Blumenthal combined for the clean sheet.

WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 3, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 2 >> The Warriors captured the PIAA District 1 team quarterfin­al, sweeping the doubles matches with Lauren Knopp and Olivia Zortetic at first doubles, and Nancy McSwain and Nava Boswell at second doubles, both winning in straight sets. Henderson also won at third singles, where Ella Tunnell won in straight sets. The Whippets won in straight sets at first singles (Jordan Bradley) and second singles (Holly Koons).

Field Hockey

KENNETT 4, OXFORD 1 >> The Blue Demons (10-7, 6-5) got two goals each from Emma Schwarz and Sydney Thureen, two assists from Steph Oleykowski and eight saves from goalie Claire Borman. Kennett coach Meghan Shumway said, “We used our speed and passing game to our advantage.” For the Hornets, Kirsten Brennan made 16 saves, and Reagan Dolinger scored with an assist from Julia Gunzel. WEST TOWN 6, GERMAN TOWN FRIENDS 1 >> Westtown (5-5, 2-3) got a hat trick from Abbie Barth, and single goals from Ayanna Revnell, Cate Cappuccio and Remy Knopping.

GREAT VALLEY 5, COATESVILL­E 0 >> The Patriots (79-1) got two goals from Ethan Williams and four saves from goalie Quintin Wrabley. Miguel Fuentes opened the scoring late in the first half on an assist from Nate McKay. Elvin Baci made it 2-0 12 minutes into the second half when he blasted a shot from 20 yards out, then five minutes later, Williams scored when he pounced on a rebound following a McKay shot. McKay made it 4-0 from a header following a corner kick.

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 3, RIDLEY 0 >> The Golden Knights (16-5) were led by Emma Nelson (23 kills, 10 digs), Emily Supplee (three aces, 12 digs, six kills) and Carlee Hontz (10 digs) as they posted scores of 25-19, 25-13, 28-26. RADNOR 3, WEST CHESTER EAST 0 >> For the Vikings, standouts included Ryleigh Griffin (20 assists, nine digs) Reilly Ragni (seven kills, seven digs), MG Kerns (seven kills) and Lizzy Carr (six digs).

Cross Country

GREAT VALLEY SWEEPS BOYS’ QUAD MEET >> The Patriots defeated Oxford (2631), Kennett (22-38) and Avon Grove (20-38), as Great Valley’s Seth Hoffritz (16:30) finished first and teammate Riley Casey (16:45) placed fifth. Oxford, which defeated Kennett (24-35) and Avon Grove (2137), was led by Evan Campbell (third, 16:40) and Luke Campbell (fourth, 16:45). Kennett’s Gavin Maxwell (16:31) placed second. AVON GROVE SWEEPS GIRLS’ QUAD MEET >> The Red Devils defeated Great Valley (20-37), Oxford (19-38) and Kennett (20-41), and had two runners in the top four - Lauren O’Neil (second, 19:46) and Brooke Barfell (fourth, 19:54). Oxford, which defeated Great Valley (26-29) and Kennett (23-38), had the third-place finisher, Taj Lanier (19:49). Great Valley, which defeated Kennett (23-38), had the meet’s first-place finisher, Amy Willig (19:46).
