W.C. East holds off Oxford in 4 sets

Reilly Ragni had 11 kills, MG Kerns had five kills and 13 digs, and Xiomara Lehr had 15 digs and two aces in the Vikings’ 3-1 Ches-Mont League volleyball win over Oxford on Wednesday, 25-22, 25-18, 14-25, 25-17.

Ryleigh Griffin had seven kills, 17 digs and one ace for East. For Oxford, Emily Griffin had three aces, four kills and 16 digs, while Arianna Santos had nine kills and four blocks. Danielle Stackhouse had 32 digs for Oxford. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 3, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 1 >> Seniors Emma Nelson (21 kills, three blocks and five aces) and Dani Emrich (three aces, seven digs and four assists) led the Golden Knights to a 25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23 win. West was led by Audrey Jones with 18 kills and three blocks, while Aly Reardon had six kills, 18 digs, and two aces. Hailey Lewis had five kills and four blocks, Lea Filidore had 18 digs, and Jenna Schuda had 20 assists and 12 digs.

UNIONVILLE 3, SUN VALLEY 2 >> Elizabeth Sauerbaum had 29 assists, Sophie Brenner had 23 kills and Kat Tuerff had 10 kills for the Indians in the 21-25, 25-19, 25-15, 16-25, 15-8 win. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 3, STRATH HAVEN 1>> Jess Angeline had 43 assists, nine digs and one ace in the nonleague win, 15-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-16. Rachel Wertz had 14 kills and 13 digs, while Victoria Rudolph had 13 kills.

Girls Soccer

GREAT VALLEY 1, BISHOP SHANAHAN 1>> Ally Waite opened the scoring for Bishop Shanahan before Great Valley’s Roni Yonce scored on an assist from Emmy Gray to even up the game. Goalies Jess Gorr (Shanahan) and Lauren Birchler (Great Valley) kept the game even through the second half and overtime.

Field Hockey

UNIONVILLE 7, SUN VALLEY 0 >> Mia Impagliazz­o had a hat trick, Kendall Gardiner had two goals, and Maura Minter and Grace Baccelleri also found the cage for the Indians. Impagliazz­o and Minter had assists, to go with two assists from Amanda Panati and one each from Rebecca Harten and Dani Panati. WEST CHESTER EAST 6, OXFORD 2 >> Kinzie Thompson had four goals and Nicole Fredricks and Sydney Scully had one goal each as the Vikings won the Ches-Mont contest. Fredricks and Scully also had assists, and Kathryn Palmer added another helper. East goalie Carlee Fulton had some big saves, as well as Viking goalie Erin Buchanan. Oxford’s goals were scored by Reese Canaday and Chloe Campbell. WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 2, AVON GROVE 0 >> Kyla Campbell and Lauren Fulling scored goals for the Warriors in the shutout win. Rachel Rementer and Ella Fulling had assists for Henderson in the win. KENNETT 2, COATESVILL­E 1 >> Vivian Chiomento and Devon Johnson scored for the Blue Demons in the Ches-Mont win, while Drew Taylor scored the lone goal for Coatesvill­e on a penalty stroke. Emma Schwarz assisted on Chiomento’s goal for Kennett. Claire Borman had four saves for Kennett, while Steph Oleykowski had a stellar defensive game in front of her. CONESTOGA 12, NORTH PENN 2 >> Charlotte de Vries scored six goals and Chloe Ziegler and Carson Snyder added two each as Conestoga defeated North Penn. Anna Mayock scored her first goal of the season for Conestoga, while Katie Clemson and Maddy Todd split the win in goal for Conestoga. NOTRE DAME 4, VILLA MARIA 3 >> Adele Iacobucci and Ryan Hickey were among the goal-scorers for the Hurricanes in the nonleague duel between two powerhouse programs. Lauren Curran had a hat trick for Notre Dame in the win.

College Football

CIAA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK >> Lincoln freshman cornerback Kendall Brooks was named CIAA Special Teams Player of the Week and freshman defensive lineman D’Rico Cook was named CIAA Rookie of the Week after Lincoln’s dramatic, 21-20, homecoming win over Elizabeth City State University.

Brooks provided the spark that ignited the Lions offense in the first half against ECSU. In the game on special teams coverage, he recovered the football following a blocked field goal attempt by the Vikings and raced 84 yards for the Lions’ first touchdown of the game. It was also Lincoln’s first special teams touchdown since the 2016 season.

On defense, Cook was one of several players who had huge games for the Lions. The freshman led the team with six tackles and also recorded two sacks on the day.

Men’s Soccer

WEST CHESTER 1, SHIPPENSBU­RG 1 >> Colin Muller scored on a pass from Shane Hartey to tie the game at 1-1, and that’s how it ended in PSAC action Thursday afternoon.

Women’s Soccer

WEST CHESTER 3, SHIPPENSBU­RG 2 >> Jenny Bail’s late header lifted the Golden Rams to a critical PSAC win over Shippensbu­rg. Unionville grad Hannah Grandell opened the scoring, and Downingtow­n East grad Madison Baxter scored WCU’s second goal of the half. Shippensbu­rg tied things up before halftime, leading to Bail’s game-winner in the 76th minute. IMMACULATA 4, WESLEY 4 >> Sophomore Miranda Rojas scored twice, while Taylor Bracy and Morgan McDonough each scored once in a wild shootout draw in the Atlantic East. The Mighty Macs (4-8-1, 1-2-1) have two games left on the conference schedule and sit in a tie for fourth. Immaculata can clinch a playoff spot with a win in one of those two games, or a loss by Gwynedd Mercy.

Women’s Golf

O’MARA PSAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK >> West Chester University sophomore Meghan O’Mara was named PSAC Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week after winning the individual title at the Alvernia Fall Invitatati­onal in Mohnton. O’Mara helped WCU win the team title and its third straight tournament of the fall. It was the first individual win for a WCU player this fall and O’Mara’s first as a collegian.

THOMPSON PSAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK >> West Chester University junior Katie Thompson scored six goals in wins over Shippensbu­rg, Mercyhurst and Bloomsburg. She leads the team in points with 10 goals and four assists.
