D-East beats Shanahan in OT to clinch Ches-Mont title
Meg Buckner and Caroline McDonald scored as Downingtown East edged Bishop Shanahan, 3-2, in overtime to clinch the ChesMont League title.
McDonald buried the overtime winner to secure the title for Downingtown East.
Girls Tennis
DISTRICT 1 DOUBLES >> Downingtown West’s Holly Koons and Sophie Koons reached the District 1 Class 3A quarterfinals Friday, along with Conestoga’s Priya Aravindhan and Olivia Dodge, as well as West Chester Henderson’s Hannah Baxter and Lessica Liu. Aravindhan and Dodge needed three sets to reach the quarterfinals, while the other local duos won both matches in straight sets. The quarterfinals and semifinals are set for Saturday, with the final slated for Wednesday.

blocks and two kills in the nonleague five-set win, 2225, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 1512. Jill Curran had 15 kills, 21 digs and five blocks. Rachel Wertz had 16 kills, 26 digs and two aces for East (18-2 overall). KENNETT 3, CHESTER CHARTER0>> Zoe Nguyen had 12 service points and six kills, Savannah Applegate had nine service points and four kills, and Alex Seel had 12 assists for Kennett in the nonleague win, 25-11, 259, 25-14. eight assists and four kills and Carly Cicconi had five service points. WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 3, LOWER MERION 0 >> Fiona Pyfer had 20 kills and four blocks, Taylor Dale had 44 assists and Amanda Ball had 25 digs for the Warriors in the nonleague win, 25-17, 25-20, 26-24.
Women’s Golf
PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS >> West Chester made history on Friday, as the squad carded a program record 307 (plus23)
to finish the first round of the PSAC Championship in first place by a commanding 16 strokes.
The Golden Rams head into Saturday’s second round occupying the top two spots on the individual leaderboard, with senior Juliarose Genuardi’s evenpar 71 pacing the 44-person field while teammate sophomore Bridget Pyott sits in second place after tallying 74 (plus-three) at the East Course at Hershey Country Club.
