Corina McBee Horn of West Chester

-

Corina McBee Horn (Nena, Granny, and Mom) passed away peacefully at home, on October 21, 2018. She was 86 years old and for the last 11 years had been a resident of West Chester, PA.

Born on January 24, 1932, Nena lived a long and wonderful life, cherished by her husband, children and grandchildren. She spent her formative years in Charleston, South Carolina attending Ashley Hall, an all-girl’s boarding school founded by her Aunt Mary Vardrine McBee in 1909. Upon graduation she attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. Nena was working during the summer in New York City at Columbia University where she met Sam, her husband of 63 years. The two dated, married and began a wonderful life together. They left this world only 33 days apart...a testament to a long and enduring love.

After brief stints in Kentucky, Ohio and Florida, Nena and Sam settled in Wheaton, Maryland with their daughter Betsy and son Tom. Nena spent many years working for the Department of the Army at the Pentagon. She was also a tireless volunteer during those years, delivering for Meals on Wheels, working for the Democratic Party at the polls and canvasing, and at the Bryn Mawr bookstore in D.C.

Nena is survived by her children Betsy and Tom, her daughter-in-law Patty, and three wonderful granddaughters, Sarah, Gracie, and Charlotte. She is also survived by nieces and a nephew who shared her love for understanding their shared ancestry.

Nena was lovingly cared for in the final months of her life by Damion and Afeisha, excellent caregivers from Home Choice Companion Care, who made it possible for Nena to spend her final days in the comfort of her own home.

Over the years Nena travelled and collected many treasures so we have chosen to say goodbye at an Open House at her home on Sunday, October 28. Family and friends are invited to stop by between 1:00-4:00 PM Sunday, October 28 at 249 Chatham Way, West Chester, PA located in the Hershey’s Mill retirement community. Please use the main Guard entrance on Greenhill Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
