Elderly resident rescued from house fire
UWCHLAN >> Firefighters rescued an elderly woman after a fire broke out in her home early Monday morning.
Firefighters responded to the 1500 block of Worthington Drive in Uwchlan Township at about 3:30 a.m. Monday for the report of a house fire with entrapment. Lionville firefighters arrived to find a woman at her bedroom window. There was a smoke condition in the home.
Crews gained entry into the home along with a chief officer from West Whiteland and they safely removed the resident from the second floor of the home, according to Lionville Deputy Chief Mike Holmes.
“They certainly did a great job, making a rescue,” Holmes said. “That was first and foremost, making sure she got out safely. Everyone did a great job, and it was a happy outcome.”
The firefighters quickly extinguished the fire in the basement and the fire was placed under control in about 20 minutes, according to Holmes. He said the fire was contained to the basement level with some smoke damage throughout the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The woman was transported by Uwchlan Ambulance to the local hospital. Her condition was not immediately known on Tuesday. No other injuries were reported.
Lionville was assisted by West Whiteland Fire Company, East Whiteland Fire Company, Downingtown Fire Department, East Brandywine Fire Company, Uwchlan Ambulance and Uwchlan Police Department.
