Republicans react to election results
WEST BRADFORD >> During Tuesday’s tally, Democrats captured several seats typically held by Republicans. Some called it a “blue wave” that swept several county, state and nationally-based Republicans from office.
Val DiGiorgio, chairman of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania, predicted change as part of a Wednesday email response: “The results in Chester County last night are disappointing and we believe, that by voting against moderate and principled Republican candidates, the voters went against their own interests. Soon they will realize that the Democrats they elected will go to Washington and Harrisburg and vote in favor of a radical agenda that will raise taxes, seek to implement socialism, and disrespect the rule of law.”
Republican first-term 158th District state Rep. Eric Roe failed to retain his seat in a race with Democrat Christina Sappey.
Roe said in a Wednesday phone interview that
the “electorate was energized about Trump.” He also said that while Republicans were organized, Democrats were “very organized.”
“It was a privilege and a joy to be a state rep,” Roe said. “I’m looking forward to spending more time with my newborn twins.”
