- Digital First Media

A man who flicked a cigarette on a West Chester police officer, spooking his horse, has found himself in a heap of trouble.

On Saturday Nov.3, at 4 p.m, during West Chester University Homecoming, West Chester police officers and Pennsylvania State troopers were on foot patrol in the area of Lacey and Walnut Streets. Officers were monitoring West Chester University Homecoming crowds and parties.

At Lacey and Walnut streets, mounted troopers were attempting to clear a large crowd from the northeast corner of the intersection. Police said a white male wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans with a black baseball cap walked around one of the horses, removed what appeared to be a cigarette from his mouth and flicked the cigarette at the mounted state trooper, striking the trooper in the left shoulder, which deflected upward and struck the ear strap of the helmet he was wearing, causing the horse to react in a way that people in the area could’ve been seriously injured.

Police later identified the man as Oleksander Mykola Hryckowian, 20, of Chalfont. He was immediately taken into custody. Hryckowian was transported to Chester County Prison by the Chester County Sheriff’s Department. Hryckowian was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, simple assault, recklessly endagering another person, underage drinking and public drunkenness.
