McSorley matches wins mark, Penn State topples Wisconsin

- The Associated Press

Trace McSorley and Penn State went back to a familiar formula Saturday — a steady diet of elusive Miles Sanders.

The resurgent running game put the Nittany Lions offense back on track, and got McSorley a milestone victory, too.

Sanders ran for 159 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, McSorley matched Todd Blackledge’s program record with his 29th win at quarterback and No. 21 Penn State beat Wisconsin 22-10.

“People may say that at times (Sanders) had been frustrated, but you never saw that,” Penn State coach James Franklin said. “Would we love to rush for more yards week in and week out? No doubt about it.”

Penn State (7-3, 4-3 Big Ten, No. 20 CFP) racked up 200-plus rushing yards in each of the first six games but had averaged just 120 over the last three. Meanwhile, McSorley — a key part of the team’s rushing attack — has been dealing with a sore right knee.

Kyler Murray passed for 349 yards and ran for 66 and Oklahoma (91, 6-1 Big 12, No. 6 CFP) survived a late two-point conversion attempt to beat Oklahoma State (5-5, 2-5).

Josh Jacobs ran for a TD and caught a scoring pass and Alabama (10-0, 7-0 SEC, No. 1 CFP) had its second straight shutout.

Shea Patterson threw for 260 yards and three TDs, Karan Higdon had two 1-yard scoriung runs and Michigan (9-1, 7-0 Big Ten, No. 4 CFP) kept its national championship hopes intact.

Georgia (9-1, 7-1 SEC, No. 5 CFP) struck for a pair of TDs late in the first half to take control and D’Andre Swift finished off Auburn (6-4, 3-4) with a 77-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter.

Will Grier threw three TD passes for West Virginia (8-1, 6-1 Big 12, No. 9 CFP) against injury-riddled TCU (4-6, 2-5).

Drue Chrisman kept Michigan State (64, 4-3 Big Ten) pinned back with a sensational second half of punting, and Ohio State (9-1, 6-1, No. 10 CFP) eventually pulled away.

Gardner Minshew II overcame a slow start and three fourthdown failures to lead Washington State (9-1, 6-1 Pac-12, No. 8 CFP) past nose-diving Colorado (5-5, 2-5).

McKenzie Milton threw two TD passes and ran for a score, helping UCF (9-0, No. 12 CFP) extend the nation’s longest winning streak to 22 games.

Jarrett Guarantano threw a 39-yard TD pass to Marquez Callaway on the final play of the first half and Darrell Taylor had four sacks for Tennessee (55, 2-4 SEC).

Jordan Love threw for a career-high 491 yards and five TDs on 32of-42 passing in just three quarters, and Utah State (91, 6-0 Mountain West) totaled 804 yards in offense.
