Villanova prof to talk politics
WEST CHESTER >> Following record turnout in the recent mid-term election, Villanova professor Matthew Kerbel will talk politics during Tuesday’s lecture series at Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center.
Kerbel is chair of the Political Science Department at Villanova University and writes a blog, “Wolves and Sheep: Political Analysis from Outside the Beltway.”
On Tuesday, Kerbel will talk about the “blue wave” that he said materialized and how a person’s perspective can be distorted in Washington.
Democrats gained control of the House of Representatives and subsequently will have subpoena power and the ability to investigate.
“We have a division of public opinion,” Kerbel said.
The prof said he will talk about independent voters siding with Democrats, who turned out in in large numbers.
“It’s unusual when both sides show up,” he said. “Typically it’s one side.”
Kerbel has written or edited nine books on American politics, initially on the detrimental effect of television on political engagement.
More recent books center on the emergence of movement politics in the blog sphere and social media.
The event will take place on High Street, Tuesday Nov. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center is conveniently located near parking, shopping and restaurants at 226 North High Street, West Chester.
