Shop Small Weekend set for Nov. 23-25
WEST CHESTER >> In collaboration with the American Express Small Business Saturday Campaign, the West Chester Business Improvement District and the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to host the second annual Shop Small West Chester Weekend on Thanksgiving Weekend, Nov. 23 until Nov. 25.
“The downtown shops and boutiques are as ready as ever for the holiday season,” said Sandy Riper, Chair of the West Chester Business Improvement District Board of Directors. “And there’s even more to be excited about this year.”
With more than 100 independently owned retail and service businesses located in downtown West Chester, shoppers will find shopping options offering everything from fine jewelry and accessories to art galleries and specialty food stores.
“The local businesses are working hard to make the weekend extra-special for customers,” said Malcolm Johnstone, Executive Director of the West Chester Business Improvement District. “They’re offering some of the best Black Friday and Small Business Saturday deals you’ll see all season.”
By spending money locally, shoppers are reinvesting their tax dollars right back into the community, said Johnstone. “This helps our community thrive and grow,” he said. “Shopping local boosts the local economy, helps to create local jobs, and enables customers to create one-on-one relationships with business owners.”
According to a survey conducted by American Express and the National Federation of Independent Businesses, 90 percent of consumers said that Small Business Saturday has had a positive impact on their community. What began as just a one-day event has now become a year-round community celebration all over the United States. Shop Small West Chester Weekend is just one part of the larger Shop Small movement to support small businesses everyday.
In addition, there will be free parking all weekend long at street meters and in metered lots from Thursday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 25.
“This Thanksgiving Weekend, we’re asking everyone to get out and support our local community by shopping small,” said Johnstone.
