Annual Christmas tree lighting Nov. 24 in Downingtown

DOWNINGTOWN >> The annual Downingtown Christmas tree lighting is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m.

This year Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas, Inc. is partnering with the Downingtown-Thorndale Regional Chamber of Commerce to put on the tree lighting and annual Christmas parade.

“The Chamber is honored to take part in these wonderful community events. We look forward to continuing to bring them to the people of Downingtown for years to come,” said Mike Glover, Chamber President.

The tree lighting will take place in Kerr Park, next to the Log House. The GPS location is 19 Park Lane, Downingtown.

“Santa will be arriving by fire truck to light the tree with the Tim Hedrick family.

“Come early to enjoy Christmas music by DJ Dre and St. Joseph’s choir. We have face painting, crafts and Christmas trivia for the kids; WOGL 98.1 with games and prizes; cookies, hot chocolate and an s’mores station,” said Dianne Plaugher, co-chair of Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas.

Through community donations, an additional threefoot section was purchased this year to make the artificial three stand at 20 feet tall.

The Downingtown Christmas parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. “We have outstanding bands, floats, walking and marching groups, antique cars, fire trucks, and of course the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus on their very own float!” said Plaugher.

Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas and the Chamber are hosting a “Business Storefront Decorating Contest,” where the public will vote for their favorite display. Details and voting information can be found at www.dtownchristmas.com.
