WEST CHESTER >> Chester County Hospital has been honored as a 2018 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award recipient by Vizient. The hospital was one of nine nationwide to achieve this recognition in the complex teaching medical center category. The University of Pennsylvania Health System was also awarded at the academic medical center level.

Chester County Hospital earned the honor by demonstrating superior performance in delivering high-quality care. To determine the annual award winners, Vizient measured hospitals across the country using its Quality and Accountability Study.

The study identifies high-performing facilities in the areas of quality and safety by using six domains of data. The domains include mortality, efficiency, safety, effectiveness, patient centeredness, and equity. The organization has been conducting this report annually since 2015.

“The focus and hard work put in by Chester County Hospital’s staff and providers to achieve the highest-quality care for our community is evident with this award,” Karen Pinsky, MD, Chief Quality and Medical Information Officer, shared.

The award was presented during the 2018 Vizient Connections Summit earlier this month in Las Vegas. According to Byron Jobe, President and Chief Executive Officer for Vizient, “This year’s award winners demonstrate how leadership, collaboration, adaptability and the use of advanced analytics can create the shared sense of purpose that is necessary to achieve a high level of performance across the care continuum.”

“Ensuring that care is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient and equitable are driving factors for Chester County Hospital’s success and growth. We continue to measure ourselves against these frameworks and focus upon them year over year,” Michael J. Duncan, President and Chief Executive Officer at Chester County Hospital, explained. “Receiving recognition for our leadership and high quality illustrates the process improvement strategies we have implemented to meet this goal.”
