Ronald E. Woodward
Ronald E. Woodward died on Saturday, Nov 24. He was 92. Husband of Adelaide Stephenson Doyle, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage and the son of Jack and Lily Woodward who emigrated from England in 1925.
Mr. Woodward left high school in 1943 to join the Navy V-12 program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Commissioned by the Navy in 1945, he served before returning to RPI to earn bachelor’s and master’s Degrees in Architecture. Recalled by the Navy in 1951, he served at sea in Korea. He then accepted a Fulbright Grant to study town planning in England.
He enjoyed a long and varied career in architecture. His work included the Mercer Library in Garden City, N.Y. which was published as a building type study by the Architectural Record magazine. He was also Supervising Architect for Burns and Roe Inc. and Vice President for the Roe Design Group. Active in professional affairs, he chaired several committees for the N.Y. Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and served as a member of the AIA National Committee on Professional Development and was an Associate Professor with the New York Institute of Technology School of Architecture. He was active in local community affairs and a member of the Garden City, N.Y. Historical Society.
With his wife, Adelaide, he retired to West Chester, PA, in 1996.
He is survived by daughters Robin Woodward and Anne W. Lydon, son-in-law Joe Lydon, grandchildren Megan and Joseph, and brother Norman Woodward of Richmond, New Hampshire. His brother Dennis, wife Adelaide and son, John R. Woodward, predeceased him.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation from 10-11am on Friday, November 30, at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 212 S. High St., West Chester, PA 19380; followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00am.
Interment will be the following day at Oakwood Cemetery, Bay Shore, N.Y.
