West Chester men drop Holy Family, 85-75

The West Chester men’s basketball squad improved to 3-3 overall on Tuesday with a non-league road win over Holy Family, 8575. Trailing by three at the half, the Golden Rams outscored the Tigers 49-36 the rest of the way.

Jackson Hyland led the way with 20 points, Malik Jackson added 16 points and Frank Rokins chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds. Tim Toro and Colin Daly had 10 and 11 points, respective­ly for WCU, who outrebound­ed Holy Family, 47-26. VIRGINIA UNION 93, CHEYNEY 68» The Wolves fell behind by 18 at the half and never made a serious run in a non-league clash in Richmond.

Chris Richardson was CU’s leading scorer with 17 and Jalen Branch added 11 for Cheyney (1-6 overall). Union outrebound­ed the Wolves 46-25, and CU shot a paltry 13 of 29 from the free throw line. LINCOLN 71, USCI 51 » The Lions won the non-league clash by limiting the University of the Sciences to 30 percent shooting.

Lincoln (2-3 overall) had a 38-24 scoring edge in the second half. Deaquan Williams and Zahrion Blue scored 12 and 11, respective­ly, for LU, who led all but 4:55 of the contest. LIGHTSEY HONORED BY CIAA » Lincoln’s Bernard Lightsey has been named the Central Intercolle­giate Athletic Associatio­n Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performanc­e last week.

Lightsey averaged 23 points as the Lions defeated nationally-ranked Kutztown 94-91 in double overtime before dropping a hard fought weekend decision to Seton Hill, 91-85.

For the week, Lightsey shot 40% from the field (1640), 33.3% (8-24) from beyond the 3-point arc and 85.7% (6-7) from the free throw line. He finished the week with five assists, two steals and three rebounds.

Women’s Basketball

GOLDEY BEACOM 65, LINCOLN 54» The Lions fell behind 22-10 after one quarter and never recovered.

Lincoln shot just 38 percent from the field and turned the ball over 29 times. Bryanna Brown and Alisia Machado led LU (2-4 overall) with 10 points apiece.
