If you saw a police officer this month with a beard, he helped raise more than $14,000 for two organizations.

Numerous police officers participated in “No Shave” November by growing beards as part as of a larger charitable effort to raise funds for “Unite For Her” and “Beards for Buc.” Willistown police officers and officers from surrounding departments joined representatives from two charities that each received $7,000 during Numerous police officers participated in “No Shave” November by growing beards to raise funds for “Unite For Her” and “Beards for Buc.” Willistown police officers and officers from surrounding departments joined representatives from those two charities that each received $7,000 during a check presentation event held Wednesday at the Willistown Police Station.

All 18 of the Willistown officers participated and they plan to keep their beards through December. Narcise said they received a great response from the community because it’s unusual to see a police officer in this area with a full beard.

“It’s a great opportunity to help raise money for charity and raise awareness,” Willistown Police Chief John Narcise said. “It’s a win-win for everybody.”

Beards for Buc is a new endeavor undertaken this year. The officers asked Narcise if they could also raise money for the family of Sgt. Christopher “Buc” Sambuco from the Caln Township

Police Department. He suddenly and unexpectedly passed away back in April, leaving behind his wife and four young children, as well as an extended law enforcement family. The officers said Sambuco was a devoted husband, father, friend and public servant. They wanted to raise funds for the Sambuco Children Educational Fund to help with his children’s education.

“The law enforcement community is extremely close,” Narcise said. “We all know each other and we are more than willing to step up and help raise money for a great cause, as well as Unite for Her, that’s a great cause too.”

Unite for Her is a locally based charity committed to helping women diagnosed with breast cancer navigate their way through treatment by providing complementary therapies designed to promote

physical and emotional wellness. This is the second year that the Willistown police participated in No Shave November to raise funds for Unite for Her.

“Many people have been affected by breast cancer in some way. We all know someone who has had it,” Narcise said. “We wanted to contribute to this organization.”

Narcise hopes that all of the Chester County police departments will join them in growing beards to raise money for both causes next year. He thanked the participating police departments, which includes: Willistown, West Goshen, WesttownEast Goshen Regional, East Whiteland, West Whiteland, and Malvern Borough.
