Abraham B. ‘Rusty’ Canfield III

Abraham B. “Rusty” Canfield, III passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Neighborho­od Hospice, West Chester, PA on Thursday, December 6, 2018. He was the loving husband of Nancy E. Canfield (nee Rodkey) for 45 years. Rusty was born in Bryn Mawr and raised in Wayne by the late Abraham B. Canfield, Jr. and Louise Smith Canfield.

After graduating from Radnor High School, Rusty enlisted in the Navy in October 1968. After Navy Engineerin­g school, he served Presidents Johnson and Nixon as an Engineman II Class on the Presidenti­al Yachts at the Washington Naval Yard.

After his military service, Rusty was a technician in the automotive industry, working in Devon and Exton. He was employed by Sloan Ford as a service manager from 1975 until his retirement. In his retirement years, he enjoyed working part time for Blossom Boutique Florist as their driver.

As a lifelong car enthusiast, Rusty built and showed his prized 1932 Ford Roadster. He and his wife traveled across the United States, their last trip in 2017, showing the Roadster at car shows and visiting points of interest along the way. Rusty enjoyed sharing his love of cars with his young grandsons. He loved taking them to car shows, train museums and Strasburg Railroad.

Rusty’ s family was paramount in his life. In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his daughter Erin M. Prokop, her husband Matthew, and grandsons Zachary and Samuel of Exton; and his daughter Amy E. Canfield and her fiancé, Steven Legath of Downingtow­n. Rusty is also survived by his sister Beth Thomas and husband Ron of Tilghman Island, MD, brother Robin and wife Roxanne of North Fort Myers, FL, and sister Mimi Frasciello and husband Dan of Upper Darby, PA, his brothers-in-law Richard, Randy and Ron Rodkey, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his nap buddies, cats Molly and Deuce.
