Wayne H. Mellinger, 87, of Parkesburg, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Brandywine Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Barbara L. Mann Mellinger with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Kemblesvil­le, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel and Josephine Powell Mellinger.

Wayne was an area resident all his life. He served in the US Army from 1948 to 1952. He was employed by the former Capitol Bakers in Westwood and the former Highland Dairy. For 42 years, he served as Superinten­dent of the Fairview Cemetery in Coatesvill­e. He was proud of the relationsh­ips he developed with all he served in this capacity.

Wayne was a 50 year member of the Brandywine Goddard Masonic Lodge, a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America, former member of Rotary Internatio­nal and an active member of the Parkesburg Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and choir member.

Wayne enjoyed bowling and he played baseball and softball on several local teams and was known for his hitting prowess.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, by four children; Sandy Finerfrock and husband Mike of Warsaw, VA, Steven Wayne Mellinger and wife Jennifer of Parkesburg, Debbie Clarke and husband Tim of Downingtow­n and David Mellinger of Essex, MD, six grandchild­ren, 14 great grandchild­ren and three sisters; Hazel Townsend, Doris Meredith, and Ruth Johnson. He was preceded in death by six siblings; Betty Smith, Elsie Mellinger, Leroy, Donald, John and Robert Mellinger.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11 AM at the Parkesburg Baptist Church, 103 West St., Parkesburg, PA 19365 followed by interment at the Glen Run Baptist Cemetery, Atglen, PA. Viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 PM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA and also Thursday morning at the church from 10 - 11 AM. Masonic services will be performed at 7:45 PM Wednesday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkesburg Baptist Church at the above address.
