2 PEOPLE KILLED IN VIOLENT CRASH ON ROUTE 202
Dump truck and SUV collide on ramp to business Route 30
Two people have died in a violent collision Wednesday morning on the ramp from southbound Route 202 to westbound business Route 30, officials said.
East Whiteland Fire Company was alerted to the crash at 9:49 a.m. with the report of five victims trapped under a dump truck.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Kelly MacIntyre said the the dump truck and a Nissan Pathfinder were traveling south on Route 202 and both vehicles exited at US 30 bypass when the accident happened. She was not able to say how the accident happened pending the investigation of the major accident investigation team, which was reconstructing the incident.
“There are two deceased, two critical and one moderate injury,” said MacIntyre. “The commercial truck driver is not injured.”
MacIntyre said the truck driver was not being detained at this time, nor was she aware of the driver being given any blood or drug tests as of noon.
The three injured victims were taken to Paoli Hospital Trauma Center. Ambulances and EMS units from East Whiteland, Good Fellowship, Uwchlan, Berwyn Goshen and Coatesville assisted as well as fire police from East and West Whiteland and Paoli.
The Pathfinder, which had New Jersey plates, was crushed
when the tri-axle dump truck landed on top of it. Rescue crews quickly called for addition crews bringing West Whiteland Fire Company to the scene.
The truck carried a sign identifying it as a construction vehicle, and to be alert for stops and turns. Some stones could be seen in the bottom of the truck, but it did not appear to be loaded.
A heavy wrecker from Abel Brothers Towing was bought in to lift the truck, which was laying on its side, off the car. Rescuers were able to extricate three of the victims of the crumbled vehicle by cutting off the passenger door and removing the roof.
The exit road to business Route 30 was closed for much of the day as police investigated the crash.
Police are asking anybody who saw the accident to contact state police at Embreeville at 610-4866280.
