WCU men’s hoop coach Blair earns 200th win

West Chester University men’s basketball head coach Damien Blair earned his 200th career win at the helm of the Golden Rams Saturday, a 85-67 victory against Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Kutztown. It was the Golden Rams’ 13th win in a row, and tied a West Chester program record (set in 2002-03) for the longest winning streak in history. The Golden Rams were led by 19 points from junior guard Malik Jackson, 17 points and eight rebounds from senior Frank Rokins and 13 points, six rebounds and six assists from senior Matt Penecale. The Golden Rams boast an 11-0 mark inside the Hollinger Field House this season, keeping West Chester as the only program in the PSAC to remain unbeaten at home during the 2018-19 campaign.

The Mighty Macs took a one-point lead into halftime thanks to a 18-of-37 shooting performanc­e from the field, but were unable to match that production in the second half as the Cavaliers outscored IU, 48-30. Morgan Bailey recorded his first-career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the Mighty Macs effort. Immaculata honored the program’s five seniors - Mike Piekarski, Morgan Bailey, Terence Sklikas, Cordell Lord and Jimmy Markham - prior to their final game in Alumnae Hall for their contributi­ons to the program.

Women’s Basketball WEST CHESTER 64, KUTZTOWN 53 »

The Golden Rams (12-12, 8-8 PSAC) used a dominant third quarter for the PSAC win against Kutztown (13-10, 11-5 PSAC). Madison Torresin led all scorers with a game-high 17 points while Troisi was close behind with 13 points of her own. Destiny Jefferson finished with 11 points of her own while Rylee Power registered 10 points. It was the third time in the last four game that Power has scored in double figures. Power also tied her career-high in rebounding as she came away with nine rebounds for the second game in a row.

Natalie Ayoub led the Mighty Macs with 11 points, while seniors Amber Ballinger and Bailey Krewson were honored for their contributi­ons to the program prior to their final game in Alumnae Hall, and finished the afternoon with seven and five points, respective­ly.

The Golden Rams took an early 2-0 lead on RBI singles by Alisha Patel and Reilly Gearhart in the top half of the second inning. However, Lee scored three runs in the home half of the second inning, then four more runs in the third inning at the NFCA DII Leadoff Classic.

The Golden Rams (0-4) were back in action for the fourth time in two days Saturday afternoon at the NFCA DII Leadoff Classic, and lost to Tampa (5-0). WCU scored in the first inning on doubles by Annamarie Hartman and Emily Maseth. Jen Hanshaw got the start in the circle for the Rams, and pitched 4.2 innings scattering just five hits and one unearned run in a no-decision.

West Chester set season-highs on three of the four events while eclipsing last week’s season-best overall team score en route to victories over host SUNY Cortland and Ursinus Saturday in a non-league tri-meet. West Chester (6-2) posted a 192.625, besting Cortland (186.975) and Ursinus (186.15) for the win Saturday. Along the way, the Golden Rams posted season highs on the balance beam, floor exercise and the vault while winning the individual title in all four events. Yoli Nodarse tied for first on the beam with a 9.825. Freshman Rose Fanara captured the floor exercise with a career-high 9.85. Senior Jessica Meakim of Downingtow­n took first on the vault with a 9.775, while Myranda Marshall won the uneven bars with a score of 9.75 and Meakim placed second with a 9.55.

Malvern Prep’s divers swept the top three spots at the 2019 Middle Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) Diving Invitation­al at the Hill School in Pottstown, which was an 11dive championsh­ip diving meet format. Nick Harris set a new school record for 11 dives and won the gold medal with a score of 561.75 (his old record was 518.50). Marshall Beckett won the silver medal (401.35), Trevor Henderson won the bronze (381.70) and Danny Faunce also scored for the Friars with a seventh place finish.

West Chester East finished third overall at the Unionville Duals. East beat Overbrook 65-13. Springfiel­d Township 5718, and lost to Malvern Prep 56-15. Jake Fenimore (195) and Hugh Lemmon-Kishi (285) went undefeated on the day for the Vikings.

Indoor Track RAIDERS RUN AT MILLROSE »

The Coatesvill­e girls’ indoor track team competed in an Invitation­al 4x200 at the Millrose Games in New York City, and the relay team of Porsha Miles, Arianna Eberly, Patrisha Rokins and Sammie Miller were clocked at 1:43.09.
