Chase Sanders crowned Miss WCU 2019
Chase Sanders took home the coveted crown of Miss West Chester University 2019 on Sunday.
Harrisburg native and third-year student Chase Sanders took home the coveted crown of Miss West Chester University 2019 on Sunday, Feb. 2 as she became the university’s 21st titleholder.
A vocal performance major, Sanders’ powerful opera skills won over this year’s judges as she dazzled the audience with her rendition of “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi. Attending West Chester University on scholarship for her talents, Sanders will receive additional scholarship money as Miss WCU 2019 to help further her dream of attending Julliard to become a professional opera singer.
“The highlight was getting to know the fantastic women who competed this year,” said Sanders when reflecting on the experience. “I would have been absolutely thrilled to see any of the women alongside me in the top five win because I knew each of them would be a phenomenal Miss WCU.”
Sanders will spend her year of service dedicated to furthering her platform The Fresh Air Fund, a notfor-profit organization that allows children living in low-income communities to enjoy free summer experiences in “friendly towns” across the country. After hosting a child from Harlem over the past two years, Sanders hopes to grow West Chester’s involvement as an already established friendly town and showcase the value of diversity and inclusion.
“Miss WCU continues to be relevant year after year as each new titleholder brings a fresh perspective, platform, and passion to the campus and surrounding West Chester community. We are absolutely thrilled to have Chase as our newly crowned Miss WCU and are optimistic for what she has in store for 2019,” said Founder and Director Michael Hartman.
