Wright-Phillips’ late goal helps RBNY draw Atlanta United

ATLANTA >> Bradley Wright-Phillips scored the game’s second stoppage-time goal to help the New York Red Bulls tie Atlanta United 3-3 Sunday.

Wright-Phillips put away a low entry by 19-year-old Cristian Casseres Jr. to cap the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time.

Justin Meram gave Atlanta (97-3) a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute but goals by Daniel Royer in the 37th and Brian White in the 60th minute put the Red Bulls (8-7-4) up 2-1.

Josef Martinez drew a foul in the area and converted from the spot in the 79th to make it 2-2 and his header in the first minute of injury time gave Atlanta a 3-2 lead.

Wright-Phillips, the only MLS player with three seasons of 20plus goals, scored for just the second time this season and the first since March 16. The 34year old missed nine games over nearly two month with a groin injury. Clark had five saves and has had clean sheets in each of his last three starts.

Diego Valeri lobbed a free kick into the center of the area and, after it deflected of defender Sebastien Ibeagha, Blanco scored on a first-timer in the 14th minute.

NYCFC (7-2-8) lost for the first time since a 4-0 loss to Toronto March 29 and had its 12-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Portland (7-8-2) has won backto-back games for the first time since a three-game win streak from April 20 to May 4 and has four wins in its last six.
