GunSenseUs launches new fund-raising program
WEST CHESTER >> GunSenseUs (formerly Gun Sense Chester County) is launching its first fund-raising campaign to support the organization’s goal of reducing gun injury and death. The group has ongoing public educational meetings and a special event open to the public that will soon be announced for October of this year.
GunSenseUs will be using public relations, social media, crowd funding and special events to get the word out and to initiate donations from givers over this next year.
GunSenseUs operates as both a 501 C3 and 501 C4 organization with both educational and advocacy activities. Donations to 501 C3 organizations are tax deductible. GunSenseUs offers persons interested in reducing gun violence the choice to support education, advocacy, or both. Few gun violence prevention groups cover both designations.
Ann Colby-Cummings, Chairperson of GunSenseUs stated: “The public is frustrated with gun violence and is looking for actions and solutions that enhance safety for all residents. They now have an opportunity to show their support to curb these senseless injuries and deaths with a unique group like GunSenseUs through making donations and volunteering.”
The theme of this year’s activities for GunSenseUs is “Your Best B.E.T. For Gun Safety”. The B., E., T. of the campaign theme stands for Background Checks, Extreme Risk and Training on Firearm Safety - respectively. A multi-media approach of direct mail, email, website announcements, and networking will be employed throughout the year. The group has a substantial focus on improving gun safety as part of reducing gun injury and death. The fundraising campaign goal is $25,000. Small donations are expected from the general public, but the organization will be reaching out as well to local firms and entities for larger support.
