Route 100 lane closures set weekdays for bridge deck construction

- MediaNews Group

Route 100 motorists will encounter weekday single lanes closures between Pottstown Pike and Kirkland Avenue in West Whiteland Township, Chester County on Monday, July 29, through Friday, August 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., for deck construction on a project to rehabilitate the bridge carrying Boot Road over the highway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

As part of this bridge improvement project, PennDOT’s contractor will remove and replace the existing parapet and bridge deck, perform abutment and guiderail repairs, and pave bridge approaches.

Built in 1968, the single-span box beam bridge is 94 feet long and 45 feet wide. The structure carries an average of 13,918 vehicles a day.

The Boot Road bridge is one of nine structures in Chester and Montgomery counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $7,296,296 project financed by Act 89, the state’s transportation plan.

Structures completed under this project include:

Old Lancaster Road over Amtrak in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County

Ross Fording Road over Octoraro Creek in West Fallowfield Township, Chester County.

The other bridge in this rehabilitation project include:

Whitford Road over Valley Creek in West Whiteland Township, Chester County.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in August 2020.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor on this bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
