Hearing set for Giant liquor license
Beer and wine may soon be coming to the local Giant supermarket.
NORTH COVENTRY >> Beer and wine may soon be coming to the local Giant supermarket.
According to a legal notice published in The Mercury on Aug. 5, township supervisors will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the township building on the supermarket’s request to transfer a liquor license.
As at other Giants, the transfer is for a “restaurant” liquor license for which a section of the store at 86 Glocker Way in Suburbia Shopping Center would be remodeled “to operate a beer garden and eatery.”
“Giant’s intentions are to sell beer, for on-premises consumption and both beer and wine ‘to go,’” according to the notice.
The license is being transferred from an Outback Steakhouse located at 299 E. Swedesford Road in Wayne.
The Giant at Upland Square in West Pottsgrove transferred a similar license from Narberth in 2017 and the supermarket chain now sells beer and wine, in Royersford, Exeter, Exton and Havertown among other locations.
Other local supermarkets, including the Redner’s in the North End Shopping Center in Lower Pottsgrove, also now sell beer and wine.
The Aug. 26 public hearing is to allow North Coventry commissioners to “receive comments and recommendations or interest of individuals residing within North
Coventry Township concerning Giant’s intent to transfer the license into the municipality,” according to the notice.
If the supervisors approve, the transfer must still be approved by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
