WCU gets back on track with win

Devon Prep boys basketball team comes back to get big Catholic League win over La Salle

The West Chester University men’s basketball squad bounced back from its lone setback this season to edge PSAC East rival Mansfield, 79-71, on the road Saturday. Ranked eighth nationally, WCU improves to 8-1 in the conference (14-1 overall).

The Rams reeled off 15 straight points early to get the lead for good. Freshman guard Robbie Heath led the way with 20 points, six rebounds, four assits and four steals. Another freshman, Kyle McGee, chipped in eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Junior Antoine Lewis added 12 points for West Chester. ST. AUGUSTINE’S 93, LINCOLN 60 >> The Lions surrendere­d a 25-1 run and never recovered in non-league action in Raleigh, N.C. Lincoln’s Jordan Camper had a team-high 16 and nine rebounds for Lincoln (4-13 overall). Keynante Williams added 10 points for the Lions.

DEVON PREP 66, LA SALLE 62 >> The Tide rallied late to complete the comeback over the Explorers. Eamon Walsh scored a gamehigh 22 points for Devon Prep. Chris Patton scored an addition 17 points for the Tide. WESTTOWN 63, OLYMPUS PREP (NJ) 28 >> The Moose cruised to a non-league win. Nymire Little led the way with 18 points and TJ Berger chipped in eight for Westtown. OUR SAVIOR LUTHERAN 70, WESTTOWN 60 >> Noah Collier had 19 points and Jalen Warley 14 in a loss in Massachuse­tts on Sunday. Franck Kepnang had 11 points for the Moose. CHURCH FARM 52, KENNETT 43 >> The Griffins prevailed over the Blue Demons in a non-league clash. Buzzy Hertz and Ethan Schmidt scored 16 and 11, respective­ly, for Kennett.

VILLA MARIA 51, MONSIGNOR SCANLAN (NY) 46 >> Ahead by 12 points at the half, the Hurricanes held on to register an impressive non-league triumph. Morgan Warley poured in 20 points to lead Villa Maria (8-4 overall).

WEST CHESTER EAST 49, MERION MERCY 29 >> The Vikings cruised to a 20-point nonleague win. Lauren Klieber scored 21 points and Mikayla Kushner chipped in 10 for East. The Vikings’ Megan Merten grabbed 10 rebounds and had six blocks.

Wrestling

LIBERTY 62, GREAT VALLEY 15 >> The Patriots fell at the Quakertown Duals. Casey Capetola (138 pounds), Luke Ryan (132) and Tyler Humphreys (220) notched the wins for Great Valley. BATTLE AT THE BRIDGE >> Kennett took 8th place at the Battle at the Bridge tournament in Maryland. Trent Kochersper­ger (132 pounds) placed second, Josh Barlow (126) took third, Daralle Barrett (138) finished fifth and Bailey Shindle (220) ended sixth. SOUDERTON DUALS >> Downingtow­n East took fourth in the 15-team duals tournament at Souderton High. The Cougars defeated Souderton (72-9) and Northeast (5813) on their way to the semis, where they fell to Central Dauphin (55-12). They lost to Central Bucks East, 43-26, in the thirdplace dual. Keanu Manuel (113 pounds) and Zach Aceto (285) went 4-0 on the day.

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 9, CONESTOGA 3 >> Matthew Flinn and Zakari Spero each recorded a hat trick in the Whippets’ runaway win over the Pioneers. Eddie Gustin,

Charlie Cliggett and Cody Draves each scored once for West, while Cliggett added four assists and Tyler Worth had two. Frank Konopasek, Drake Peterson and Griffin Malik scored goals for Conestoga. OWEN J. ROBERTS 6, WC RUSTIN 3 >> Aaron King, Evan Yori and Daniel Turner each scored a goal for Rustin while Matthew Chapman added two assists in a losing effort for Rustin Friday night. Rustin goalie Conor Marley stopped 35 shots on the night. SUN VALLEY 6, GREAT VALLEY-PHOENIXVIL­LE 1 >> Jacob Rogacki scored the only goal for GV-Phoenixvil­le in the loss. Caleb Redman and Sean McNamara assisted on the goal. BISHOP SHANAHAN 8, ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 4 >> Shanahan scored three goals in the first period and four in the third period in a runaway win. Tristan Fallon had four goals, Patrick Edgcumbe had two and Jake Mulhern and Matt Brozey scored once each for the Eagles. Four Shanahan players each had two assists: Daniel Welch, Brozey, Matthew Fee and Colin O’Donnell.

SHANAHAN-DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 3, OJRBOYERTO­WN 1 >> Susan Roselli scored twice and assisted on a goal by Madisyn Miller in the Friday victory. Goalie Olivia Ceglia stopped 14 shots in the victory for Shanahan-East.

PENNRIDGE 5, WC EAST 3 >> Kylie Chandler scored twice and Morgan Luksic opened the day’s scoring in the Vikings’ loss. Chandler’s second goal came with an extra attacker on in the final minute and brought East within one at 4-3, before Pennridge added an empty-netter for the final margin. East netminder Miranda Goldman stopped 28 of 32 shots in the loss. PENNCREST-HAVEN 6, WC RUSTIN 4 >> Jennifer Gallagher scored twice in the first period, but it wasn’t enough for the Golden Knights. Fiona Simcox and Isabella Cericola also found the net for Rustin, with Cericola assisting on all three of the goals she didn’t score. Lydia Mason had two assists and Gallagher assisted on Simcox’s goal.

Women’s Basketball

WEST CHESTER 66, MANSFIELD 46 >> The Rams notched their second straight PSAC East win, topping the the host Mountainee­rs on Saturday. Junior center Justyn Roberts came off the bench to score 18 points and grabbed eigh rebounds. Freshmen Sasha Marvel and Leah Johnson chipped in 11 and 10 points, respective­ly. West Chester improves to 3-6 in the conference, 5-9 overall. LINCOLN 70, ST. AUGUSTINE’S 61 >> Skydajah Patterson scored 19 points off the bench to help power the Lions to a non-conference road triumph over the Falcons. DeAshia Young added 10 points for Lincoln, who is 14-3 overall.
