Day of Service slated in West Chester

-

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, and several groups in the borough have events planned.

WEST CHESTER >> St. Paul’s Baptist Church in West Chester celebrates and honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. each January by performing community outreach service projects throughout the Greater West Chester area.

St. Paul’s partners with other local churches, civic organizations and community agencies to make a positive difference in our community. MLK Day of Service 2020 marks the 16th year that SPBC has had the privilege to host this event.

The overall objectives of the MLK Day of Service are to remind some and educate others about the life and contributions of Dr. King to our country and our world, while meeting needs in our community. Beginning Jan. 1, 2020, volunteers are encouraged to review a list of available service projects at stpaulsbaptist.org and pre-register online for their first and second choices of interest.

Volunteers will gather at St. Paul’s on Monday morning, January 20, at 8 a.m. to receive their assigned tasks, meet with their specific project teams and following orientation travel to over 40 sites in the area; prepared to serve others in a variety of ways championed by Dr. King. Upon completion of the projects, all volunteers return to SPBC for lunch and a brief Reflections service that reviews the day’s happenings.

Serving the needs of individuals, meeting our other community service partners and maintaining the principles and philosophies of Dr. King is a blessing to all participants involved in the Day of Service as we strive to create the Beloved Community. We are the “Keepers of the Dream”.

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., several performers will present the Melton Center Gospel Concert, on January 19, at 3 p.m., at the Melton Center, 501 E. Miner St.

Performers include: Alice’s Voices, Second Presbyterian Church; Trinity Assembly of God Church, Assembly of God Church; Dayshawn Jacobs, youth singer; and Janina Simone, Soul Gospel Sounds.
