Shanahan, Neylon lead Unionville past Strath Haven

Logan Shanahan registered 20 points and Sean Neylon added 19 to power the Unionville boys’ basketball team to a 66-51 triumph over Strath Haven. It was a District 1 5A Playback game to determine the fifth and sixth seeds heading into the upcoming PIAA Tournament.

The Indians (19-7 overall) broke it open by outscoring the Panthers 17-8 in the third quarter. Peter Kucharczuk chipped in 14 points for Unionville, who previously qualified for states 14 years ago. PENNRIDGE 52, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 48 » In the seventh/eighth game of the District 1 6A Playbacks, the Cougars were edged down the stretch. Andrew King poured in 28 points to pace East and David Owsik had 10 points. The Cougars will open the PIAA Playoffs on March 7 against the District 11 champion. COATESVILL­E 75, LOWER MERION 69 » The Red Raiders captured fifth place in the District 1 6A Playbacks with a home win over the Aces. Coatesvill­e will open the PIAA Playoffs on March 7th against the runner-up from District 12.

Girls Basketball

VILLA MARIA 54, WEST CHESTER EAST 40 » In the District 1 5A fifth/sixth place battle, the Hurricanes prevailed over the Vikings. Morgan

Warley scored 13 of her 18 points in the first half for Vila Maria, and Maddy Ryan chipped in with nine points. Lauren Klieber and Megan Merten combined to score 29 for East, but the rest of the lineup managed just 11 total points

Junior Golf

AVONDALE GOLFER IN 14TH PLACE » Avondale’s Rylie Heflin shot a 5-over-par 79 in the first round of the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championsh­ip Friday at TPC Myrtle Beach. Heflin is currently tied for 15th place in the 54-hole event. The second round is Saturday and will conclude on Sunday. Heflin is nine strokes out of first place and the only Pennsylvan­ia girl in the top-20.
